Brighton & Hove Hockey Club will be getting together for five 'parkrun takeovers' in July and August 2026.
Parkrun is a nationwide series of 5km runs held on Saturday mornings (starting at 9:00am) in areas of open space around the UK. They are open to all ages and abilities (running and walking), and are free, safe and easy to take part in. Please register at www.parkrun.org.uk as it is free and your runs can be logged. People can also help volunteer via the website.
All BHHC members, friends and family are welcome to join in. BHHC members are encouraged to turn up in a club shirt (home or away) at around 8:45am on the Saturday for the 5km run at 9:00am. People usually get together for a post-run coffee and chat with fellow runners, helping raise the profile of the club within the community.
The first one is on 25th July at East Brighton Park;
the second is on 1st August before Pride at Bevendean Down (BN2 4LB);
the third is on 8th August at Hove Park;
the fourth is on 15th August at Preston Park;
and the fifth is on 22nd August at Hove Promenade.
Andrew Bromley, who started the initiative eight years ago, says: "The parkrun is a 5k fun run that loads of BHHC members do already; however it would be great to co-ordinate a few days and publicise the club some more. Parkruns are a completely free event and allow all standards of competitors to enjoy the 5k route together!"
James Millar, the club's parkrun co-ordinator, says: "This is similar to last year in terms of order. Pride falls on the 1st Aug, which will mean a little journey for some people doing parkrun and then getting to the club parade but it will be all good. We are a sports team. Bevendean is by far the hardest. Eternal respect for those who do all of them."
