Juniors weekend review - two BHHC sides face Horsham opponents at Sussex Cup Finals day on Saturday

Brighton and Hove's under-14 girls will play Horsham in the Sussex Cup final on Saturday morning (April 13) at Hurstpierpoint College after producing their best hockey ever in the qualifying tournament last Saturday, according to delighted coach Clare Cook.

"The girls were fit and raring to go in the first ever Under-14 Sussex Cup qualifiers tournament yesterday afternoon in rather chilly weather at Hurst School," Clare reports.

"A keen team initially played two half-hour matches against Horsham Hotstars (won 8-0) then East Grinstead (won 4-0). This placed them first in their pool and they faced a strong Amber Fillies side (combined Burgess Hill and Mid Sussex) in a highly competitive semi-final, winning 2-1 and securing their place in next the final next weekend.

"The girls were amazing. Their tenacity, spirit, team play and encouragement of each other was second to none, I have never seen them play this well. The individual levels of skill were unbelievable (too many champagne moments to recount) though this was pulled together in a truly team effort.

"The final is next Saturday against Horsham Under-14s at 9.30 at Hurstpierpoint College as part of the Sussex Cup Final day. Another Brighton vs Horsham derby...

"Any support will be gratefully received; we had a lot of lovely positive shouting (thank you to all our tireless supporters) and encouraging doggy woofs yesterday, the more Brighton fans the better! Thank you also to all the great umpires who gave up their afternoons for the girls, much appreciated."

Also through to finals day after the qualifying tournament are BHHC's under-16 boys, who will face Horsham at 12.45pm. Good luck to both teams.
