Burgess Hill Marines 2
BHHC Starlings 3
Nina Kuhn reports: "What a match! The Starlings started a bit depleted by having one player less than the opposition, who took advantage of that at the beginning and scored very quickly. The girls were defending very strongly and during a short corner the opposition scored another goal.
The girls moved around and tried different positions and that was a ticket to paradise! The energy went up and the girls became superstars on the stage! Polly was fearless in tackling and intercepting the ball, Josie was holding her fort in the back with the help of her defence buddies. Cass was incredible in clearing up the balls and blocking the attacks, never giving up.
The front was led by Ruby and Bea, who was great in driving the ball. Izzy, Sophie, and Elena were teaming up beautifully in the attacks and holding the middle field. The first goal was hard teamwork - Elena drove the ball to the D, passed to Bea who then passed to Sophie. Brilliant!
This brought the spirits up and very quickly after, Elena passed the ball to Sophie who made a beautiful score and drew the score. Izzy was the key link that held the field, tirelessly running with the ball, tackling and strategically passing the ball to her co-players.
The half time didn’t stop the girls - they were on fire! Everyone continued doing their best in bringing the ball front with many opportunities in the D but somehow all unlucky. In goal we had confident Nia who stopped several balls for what looked like certain goals. But not when Nia is there! Imogen was impressive, the youngest player who joined the team for the first time but was unstoppable in tackling and driving the ball.
In one of the attacks towards the end of the match, Elena drove the ball across the field into the D and scored the third goal. What a victory, girls! With 10 players only! You were all amazing and, by the look of it, had a great fun too! Players of the match were captain Elena and Cass. Thank you, Vicky, for organising the match and supporting the girls!"
