BHHC M1s 2-2 Holcombe M2s
Final league position: 9/10
"A hard fought draw against second placed Holcombe M2s was a strong result, much like the spectacular 4-4 draw with league leaders Hampstead & Westminster M2s at home earlier in the season.
The M1s had a good first half, but were caught early by the visitors with a turnover that lead to a strike by Thomas O'Keeffe. The game pace slowed down as both sides were looking to avoid giving chances away. Experienced distribution from Brighton defenders Adam Flett and Tim Upchurch, as well as from Holcombe defenders Mubashar Ali and veteran Kwan Browne, provided both sides with opportunities during the half.
The second half was full of action. Initially, both sides continued to hold back and some moves did not gel. The game changed in the third quarter after a second goal at 57 mins from Reuben Sendzul, which gave Brighton a kick. It was go for broke, so the M1s surged forward and continued using width to create openings. At 60 mins a Brighton cross from the left went to Alberto Rangel Martinez in the D, who returned the ball to Juan Sosa to score and start a come back. Brighton worked the ball into the D again and it fell to James Rayward, who smashed the ball into the net to make it 2-2 with huge cheers from the home crowd. A last penalty corner was won but was blocked out, and the game ended with a draw.
Unfortunately a point was not enough to avoid relegation from the National League Men's Conference East. The M1s finish the season level on points and goal difference with 8th place, but remain 9th on goals scored. A harsh end to the season after an improved second half in 2026."
BHHC W1s 2-1 Horsham W1s
Final league position: 5/12
Meghan McCaughan reports: "The stage was set for a perfect finale at home: sun shining, spirits high, and the sea—very visibly—just beyond the pitch (though second placed Horsham still seemed a little unsure where it was). With only 12 players available instead of the usual 15, Brighton arrived with a simple mindset: quality over quantity. And as it turns out, 12 was more than enough.
From the first whistle, Brighton took control. Slick passing, composed movement, and relentless attacking intent saw the home side dominate early exchanges. However, against the run of play, Horsham snuck ahead in the second quarter after a loose ball from open play ricocheted off the goalkeeper. A tough break—but if anything, it only sharpened Brighton’s focus.
What followed was a display of confident, attacking hockey. The sister duo Orla and Sorrel linked up beautifully, Bara dictated the midfield with authority, and the forward line of Molly, Joey, and Eliza caused chaos for the Horsham defence with skill and creativity. Switching play from left to right and carving through lines, Brighton’s pressure finally paid off when Player of the Match Joey Bryant slotted home the equaliser.
A fired-up half-time team talk set the tone for the second half, and Brighton came out flying in the third quarter. Sustained pressure led to a short corner, and in the ensuing scramble, Joey struck again to give Brighton a well-deserved lead.
Into the final quarter—because Brighton do love a dramatic finish—the pressure stayed on. Chances came and went, and on another day, the scoreline could have been far more comfortable. But hockey has its moments, and a contentious umpiring decision led to a short corner for Horsham. Vice-captain Meg, ignoring captain Bara’s advice to leave it, very passionately questioned the decision and was shown a yellow card, leaving Brighton to dig deep with 10 players for five tense minutes.
And dig deep they did. Anna, Abi, Hannah, and Meg (back and composed) led a defensive masterclass, shutting down every Horsham attempt with grit and composure. In a final throw of the dice, Horsham even pulled their goalkeeper, but Brighton stood firm. Back to 11 players with two minutes to go, the final whistle soon followed—cue celebrations. A 2–1 victory, three points secured, and Horsham sent packing empty-handed. As always, Brighton kept it thrilling right to the end. Would it really be a proper finish without a nail-biting fourth quarter?
Special Mentions:
To our incredible captain Bara—your energy, leadership, and commitment all season have been unmatched.
To coach Alex—for helping us gel, sharpening our basics, and creating a brilliant atmosphere.
And to Jonny, our strength & conditioning guru—for making fitness (mostly) enjoyable… though we’re still not over the suicides session.
And with that, it’s a wrap on the 2025/26 season for Brighton Women’s 1s.
Now then… Alex, did someone say pre-season tour to the Netherlands?"

BHHC W3s 2-2 Worthing W1s (pictured)
Final league position: 5/12
Mirriam Almashat reports: "To round off the season, W3s welcomed Worthing to Blatch on a surprisingly sunny afternoon. The social injury bench were in full force, set up comfortably with coffees and picnic chairs, soaking up the sun, until they were swiftly told that sitting pitch-side posed ‘too much of an injury risk’ and were forced to stand.
Heading into the game, the team were well prepared. Diva had done her homework watching Worthing the previous weekend, and with Imo, Jess H and Alex having faced them recently with the 4s, the scouting report was impressively accurate.
Abby and Alex put in a huge shift in screen, working tirelessly to break up play, while Issy M and Izzy K (too many variations of Izzy, we know) battled hard in midfield, often double-teaming players and limiting Worthing’s opportunities going forward.
Up front, Imo was causing problems as we love to see, using her pace and strength to beat defenders and drive into the D. Her efforts paid off early, delivering a perfectly placed ball into the D for Issy M to slot home with a well-timed finish, giving the W3s the lead. However, Worthing responded quickly with a sharp counter-attack and a strike from the top of the D to bring things level.
The game continued, with W3s beginning to find a nice rhythm, the passes started to flow, and the team worked hard to create opportunities. Jo then stepped up and delivered a cracker from a short corner to put us back in front - a well-deserved goal after sustained pressure.
Defensively, Flo, Diva, Elena and Vaughany held strong, dealing with everything thrown at them and keeping things composed at the back. Up front, Jo, Ange, Imo and Wan kept the intensity high, pressing well and continuing to threaten. Just as it looked like W3s might see the game out, Worthing managed to find an equaliser in the final two minutes - a frustrating end to what had been a strong performance.
A special mention goes to Jess H, who played her final league game before she jets off to Australia. She’s been a huge part of the team and will be massively missed both on and off the pitch. She also kindly gifted the team new hockey balls with her face on them!
MOM: Flo – Outstanding play in defence
DOD: Jess H – for leaving us (unacceptable behaviour)
To finish the season in true W3s ‘Social’ style, the team headed to Shiraz for a well-earned meal where the wine and cocktails were very much flowing, before making our way to Drink the Bar Dry - a name we absolutely lived up to. A brilliant evening all round, although Sunday morning may have told a slightly different story - safe to say there were a few sore heads, and mine was definitely one of them!"
Worthing M3s 1-3 BHHC M4s
Final league position: 1/12
"Rollo Squire x2 and Nathan Thorley scored in a competitive top of the table clash against Worthing. There was sleet before push back, and from the whistle the home side threatened with attacks on goal. The M4s withstood the pressure and made their own plans. The forward and midfield lines combined well, with Rollo converting two penalty corners and Nathan scoring the third (after a disallowed strike earlier) from Will's lobbed cross. The team also got a couple of green cards for dodgy tackles and even gave a goal to Worthing since they were such decent hosts. Match teas of lasagne, cake and shots of Michael Bradford's bottled British brown booze selection helped the train journey back to the W1s club social. The M4s conclude their successful promotion campaign with 21 wins, 1 loss, no reds and 63 points.

JUNIORS
BHHC Boys Flippers - Crawley Boys Hawks Walkover.
BHHC Girls Gulls No game.
BHHC Boys U16 A 3-1 Lewes Boys U16 Lions
BHHC Girls U16 Cormorants - Eastbourne Girls U16 Walkover.
Simon Healey reports: "The girls were denied an opportunity to end the season in style as the old enemy Eastbourne were unable to field a team. This means that we end the season with a 100% record - a fitting end to their junior careers.
I (reluctantly) took on this group 4 years ago, as the Gulls, armed with zero hockey knowledge (as the team will testify!) and only knowing one player, and it has been brilliant watching them come on both as players and as a team. I look back on the early days when we effectively had separate Roedean and BC factions who didn’t really communicate (and often didn’t pass to each other), and players wandering off into different positions causing chaos on the sidelines. The difference now is incredible - fast, aggressive and free-scoring hockey that would give any team a good challenge. The only regret is that they weren’t quite able to get to the cup final they so deserved. This group, along with the players in the year above who also played with us, will form the core of the W1/2s for years to come, leaving the club in a really strong position.
A few thank yous - mostly to Catherine for doing all of the thankless unseen admin, ensuring that we always had a team to put out and never once forfeited a game. Thanks to Simon Finn for providing some proper hockey knowledge (particularly in warm up drills) and also being the occasional calming influence to me on the sideline. Also to Karen and Sorcha for their guidance, particularly in the early days. But mostly thanks to the girls - best of luck with your adult careers and I look forward to umpiring you going forward. And you never know, if you practice your shuffles you might get to a cup final one day…"
