BHHC M1s 4-3 Wimbledon M2s
Patrick Ford reports: "The M1s were faced with a huge opportunity on Saturday, with the chance to move off the bottom of the table and within striking distance of teams above if 3 points were to be collected against Wimbledon M2s.
The game started well, with a fast flowing move taking Wimbledon by surprise, ending in a tidy finish from Juan Sosa to put Brighton ahead at home. Before long though, the visitors equalised as Mathias Nier slotted away a drag flick in the 7th minute to even it up once more.
The 2nd quarter brought 3 goals, firstly from Oliver Pemble and Akshay Ahitan who left Brighton 3-1 down and with a mountain to climb. Luckily, Captain Adam Flett was there to improve the situation with a penalty corner goal to bring it to 3-2 at half time.
In the 2nd half, Wimbledon’s lack of substitutes began to show as their ability to threaten the goal slowly fell away. The resulting improvement in possession eventually meant a D entry from the left hand side before the ball fell to Patrick Ford on the penalty spot, who made it 3-3 with Q4 still to come.
The chaos continued and Wimbledon received a green card, putting Brighton firmly into the driving seat for the final stages of the game. Finally, a penalty corner was won for Brighton and this time the injection went out to Tim Upchurch. So in the 66th minute Brighton scored the winner and after 4 minutes of extremely stressful hockey for all of those involved, a huge 3 points were confirmed."
BHHC W1s 4-1 Sevenoaks W2s (pictured)
Izzy Fludder reports: "We started sharp, no messing around,
First fifteen minutes we owned the ground.
Five minutes in, the message was clear:
Sevenoaks met a team they should fear.
Joey turned over, dashed straight to the D,
Slotted it home so effortlessly.
Up front she prowled, a lion on cue,
Setting the tone, making chances true.
Goals flowed fast — Kayla, Izzy, Aoife,
Each one clinical, each one a show.
Relentless runs, full pace, no slack,
Every teammate ready to have each other’s back.
Across the pitch, the effort was real,
Endless running, every pass a steal.
Shouts and calls, support all around,
A hive of teamwork, momentum unbound.
Captain Bara calm in the heart of midfield,
Holding it steady, refusing to yield.
Meg at the back, vision and might,
Through balls slicing through, setting up flight.
What stood out most was how we all played —
Together, determined, never delayed.
No one gave up, no chance let slip,
Every touch, every tackle, every single trip.
A winning streak strong on our home turf,
Confidence rising, belief at its worth.
Next up Eastbourne — we’ll bring the same fire,
After a short break, our energy won’t tire.
Goof: Izzy Hero: Anna
Goals: Kayla Wienekus, Izzy Fludder, Aoife Codyre, Molly Beard."

Eastbourne W2s 1-1 BHHC W3s
Mirriam Almashat reports: "BHHC W3s made the long, sunny trek to Eastbourne on what felt like a suspiciously pleasant end-of-February Saturday, only to be absolutely smacked in the face by chaos.
15 minutes in and Kelly decided to spice things up by spraining her knee. Not ideal. Not in the team plan. Then, just before half time, Mirriam heard the dreaded knee pops (yes, plural) that has now ended with crutches, a splint and, heartbreakingly, her last game of the season. Devastating scenes. Huge shoutout to Dr Petrovics (Ellen), who calmly stepped in to assess the damage, confirm nothing was broken and prevent any dramatic fainting episodes. Having a literal doctor in the squad? 10/10 recruitment strategy - well done Alex.
Anyway. Apparently there was also hockey being played. It was a frustrating contest, with W3s once again struggling to convert some really promising chances. The forwards created solid opportunities, but luck just wasn’t on our side. The game remained 0–0 going into the second half. Then - breakthrough! Jo Whiting absolutely slapped in a beauty from a short corner. Unfortunately, Eastbourne decided they’d quite like to join in and promptly equalised from their own short corner. Rude.
The match was packed with questionable incidents, mounting frustration and clear injuries - but the team held their ground throughout. Jess H was outstanding in goal, pulling off some brilliant saves. At the back, Jess R, Emma and Flo worked tirelessly to hold the line (we did miss Diva’s trademark shouting, although Jess H stepped up vocally too after we generously lent Diva to the 4s!). Through midfield, Ellen, Alex, Abby, Izzy, Jess O and the briefly mobile Kelly battled hard to control the chaos. Up front, Mirriam (pre-pop), Jo, Imo and Wan kept the pressure on and kept Eastbourne under pressure whenever possible. Final score? A 1-1 draw that felt like a rollercoaster.
MOM: Jess H - Great saves
DOD: Jess R – Popped her mouth guard in nice and early, wearing it for toilet time and the cardio warm up. Keen.
Also, can we talk about the fact that half the team is called Jess? It’s less a squad and more a convention. Someone still managed to forget Jess H’s name though and voted for ‘goalkeeper’.
After the afternoon’s chaos, the team still rallied for our social at Diva’s - because nothing says resilience like good food and a microphone. Jo put together a full three-course meal and the food was genuinely unreal, restaurant standard, no notes, zero complaints. Huge shout-out as well to Jo’s sous chef for the assist behind the scenes - every great head chef needs a strong right-hand woman. Quizmaster Jess R then took charge, running the quiz with serious authority and absolutely no tolerance for cheating! Jess H and Mirriam (on crutches) took to the terrace to slap each other round the face with tortilla wraps. It turned into such a lovely evening with loads of laughs, and of course, it ended the only way a W3s social can - full-volume karaoke, dramatic duets and confidence levels that far exceeded actual vocal ability. A chaotic but perfect end to the day."

BHHC Boys and Girls U10-U12 Ron Easton Tournament at Hurstpierpoint College
Tom Clitheroe reports: "When the team manager arrives at a tournament without the goalkeeper kit and the heavens have already opened to provide a very damp early start at Hurstpierpoint College, you’d think things could only get better for the U12 Boys. A tough opening match against the previous week’s In2Hockey winners, Hawks, would certainly test that theory.
With the GK kit hastily retrieved from an address in Southwick and Lev padded up with minutes to spare before pushback, it was a frantic start. Brighton defended their D resolutely under early pressure, but the breakthrough eventually came and two goals for Hawks were enough to seal the win.
Despite the loss, the boys showed real quality and determination — and they certainly weren’t going to let the rain dampen their spirits ahead of the next challenge against Horsham. A convincing 5–0 victory proved exactly that.
A quirk of the draw meant four matches in a row, a true test of fitness and focus. With Patrick stepping in for Lev in goal, the quick turnaround barely gave the team time to catch their breath. Perhaps the back-to-back fixtures actually worked in our favour, keeping the boys sharp and warm, because what followed was outstanding — four wins in a row, putting us firmly in medal contention.
The energy levels and sheer work rate across the whole squad were exceptional throughout. In the true spirit of the Ron Easton, Lowen raised his stick to offer to also play for a Mid Sussex side short of players.
Roared on by an enthusiastic band of parents braving the rain, the boys had really entertained and shown real quality and were rewarded with a superb runners-up finish with a shiny medal to show for it. A fantastic achievement and thoroughly deserved. Well done, U12 boys!
