"The M1s lost a challenging game against Old Georgians M2s, a team that finished second in the league last season and also have previous national league experience. The visitors scored first from a penalty corner. GK Chris Borsoi made numerous saves to keep the home side in the game, including one from a penalty stroke. Captain Adam Flett made it 1-1 with a drag flick just before half time.

There was more drama in the second half as the visitors were awarded a second penalty stroke, but the ball hit the post, and so they failed to convert two in one game. Sam Bulger scored an excellent goal by carrying the ball up the right, playing a one-two, and finishing under the keeper to put Brighton in the lead. Old Georgians turned up the pressure and eventually scored two more penalty corners to take the lead, and eventually held out for the win."

Aoife Codyre reports: "A fantastic performance from Brighton & Hove Women’s 1s saw them secure an impressive 6–1 victory. Sorrel Lee was in fine form with four goals, while Molly Beard and Joey Bryant added one each.

Brighton played some excellent hockey, with expert passing, great through balls and a strong backline keeping the pressure on throughout. Honey was a constant threat working down the right-hand side with Kay and Liv, creating space and opportunities for the team. Bara was storming through the centre with Molly, backed by CJ and Emily, while Sorrel and Joey created play upfront and put heavy pressure on the back four.

Megs, Aoife, Bills and Rach linked up brilliantly, jumping back along the left all day and keeping the team moving forward. Fitness proved a real strength, with Brighton growing stronger as the match progressed and continuing to build throughout the game.

A confident, energetic and well-rounded team performance from start to finish!

Alexandra Smart reports: "BHHC’s most social (some might say elite) team trundled to The Other Stage on this fine Indian Summer Saturday. After marking out a convenient Blue Badge parking spot in the middle of a path, Mirriam hopped on Jo’s e-scooter to preserve her injured knee.

Pre match predictions had last week’s brace goal scorer Millie as the favourite to be first on the score sheet this week. But it was Ange who put us ahead after a rather (intentional?) rogue move on our first penalty corner. Breaking early into the D sent injector Ellen to the halfway line. Ange conveniently replaced her and with a trap and slap from Alex to the left post, Ange slapped the ball home.

This was Jess Harris' last appearance as England’s most officious umpire. Always eager to brandish a card, Mirriam was on thin ice with her sideline backchat from her pop up garden chair. I can’t think why Mirriam was the most popular pre match card prediction.

With a 4 month head start on Mirriam, the battle for golden stick was on full throttle. Ellen got her turn back in the injection spot and also got her name on the scoresheet with a great rebound finish on another penalty corner. Shelley did what she does best and managed to score from an impossible angle, flicking the ball off the lefthand baseline into the right hand corner of the goal. Stealing the ball in midfield and powering her way up the pitch - making sure she clocked sufficient mileage in place of Park Run - Rosie created a 3 v 1 into the D, slipping a well timed pass to Shelley with nothing but a large open goal in front of her. She went for a showboat first touch sweep to lift the ball beautifully. Past the far goal post and off the baseline.

The video umpire is still reviewing footage of the fourth goal. Mirriam gave Jo the credit for a straight strike but there was definitely a volley touch from Ange on the goal line to make sure it was safely in the net. We might never know - was it going in off Jo, or did Ange divert it in. Hmmm.

Emily was on fire in goal with crucial saves throughout the match. The opposition was clearly struggling with new ideas so sat on her to get their second goal across the line. With Diva’s direction and solid tackles in full back, Flo and Jess were set free up the pitch with strong line balls and energetic tracking back to channel players away from goal. Vaughany made a welcome guest appearance with her trademark disguised passes and had learnt everyone’s name by the end of the match. Ellen and Abby’s powerful passes up the pitch were crucial in our attacking play and Rosie, Millie and Izzy worked tirelessly in what felt like Mediterranean heat to win the 50/50s and battle for every ball.

The team enjoyed nibbling Graham’s cheesy balls (brie & cranberry, to be clear) in the sunshine while Abby explained how Tik Tok works to the over 40s.

Jess was given a proper send off in the evening with Beth on the whistle, dishing out her own green, yellow and red cards to honor Jess with Tuaca shots in place of minutes on the bench. Rosie discovered that if you just don't leave the clubhouse after the match, it doesn't count as a night out.

"Rollo Squire x2, Will Brickell, Harley Harden and Evan Hitchen scored in an entertaining away game at St Andrews High School. The M4s worked hard and grabbed their chances with two well constructed goals in the first half, as the experienced Southwick side got one back. In the second half the visitors kept making moves and scored three more in quick succession, and were fortunate not to concede further from the numerous penalty corners Southwick won.
