BHHC W1s 2-3 East Grinstead W2s
Megs Wienekus reports: "Brighton Women’s 1st XI showed real resilience against East Grinstead Women’s 2nd XI, fighting back from a 0–3 deficit to finish the game 2–3.
East Grinstead took early control, scoring three goals before Brighton could settle. Despite this, Brighton stayed composed and began to grow into the game. Sorrel was a constant attacking threat, taking on defenders and testing the goalkeeper inside the D, while Grace carried the ball strongly down the left, repeatedly driving to the baseline. On the right, Honey and Kayla combined well with quick passing to move the ball effectively into attacking areas. Molly worked tirelessly to apply pressure on the East Grinstead halfbacks, supported by a solid performance from Hannah at the back. Abby and Megs W added variety with several aerials, while Bara and Meg M struck the ball with confidence and power. Joey made smart leads and well-timed runs, creating space and options up front. In goal, Amanda produced a brave and committed performance, making a number of excellent saves and reacting quickly with well-executed dives. Eliza worked hard through midfield and showed determination throughout, even after taking a ball to the cheek. A strong team effort overall, with plenty of positives to take forward.
Goals : Sorrel Lee, Bara Owen
Hero of the match : Honey
Goof of the day : Megs."

"The W3s (pictured) made the trip to Christ’s Hospital at the crack of dawn to face Horsham W3s – much to Mirriam’s surprise, discovering that Christ’s Hospital is not a hospital, but in fact a very fancy private school. The tone was set early when Jo confidently headed straight to the teas location instead of the pitch, and Alex pulled a 7-8 year old club skort out of her bag.
Brighton started strongly and opened the scoring after some lovely build-up play, with crisp passes between Imo and Ellen finding Mirriam, who calmly tapped the ball over the line. Not long after, Horsham equalised when they quickly took the ball from Kelly who had taken a dramatic tumble mid-play. We didn’t react to the counter attack – some with concern for Kelly, and some laughing at her. Brighton weren’t giving up and Imo produced one of her signature dream baseline runs, pulled it back perfectly to the penalty spot, and Mirriam smashed it in for her second. That gave Brighton a 2–1 lead going into half time.
After the break, Brighton kept the pressure on. A great move starting from Jo, into Alex, and then into Mirriam at the post saw Mirriam complete her hat-trick. Soon after, Kelly fully redeemed her mid-play tumble with a tap-in of her own, making it 4–1. Falling over clearly fuels goals!? Horsham weren’t done and were awarded a penalty flick after Alex, Diva and Jess all went for the player about to score at close range. Despite Jess’ best Jedi mind tricks (and positioning in the goal) to force the player to send the ball where she wanted, it was a well taken flick into the net. A short corner followed (still no one’s entirely sure why), and Horsham managed to sneak another over the line, bringing the final score to 4–3. For the second week running we struggled to hold our convincing lead but at least we still came away with 3 points.
Imo was unreal with her driving runs, Jo delivered some brilliant passes into space, and Diva controlled the back line as always, supported well by Flo and Amanda (who was delighted to actually see space on a hockey pitch and go for a trot now and again). Abby, Ellen and Alex were solid screens keeping everything ticking, while Ines, Kelly and Jess O put in a huge shift in midfield. Up front, Jo, Mirriam, Imo and Wan kept Horsham under pressure all game.
MOM: Mirriam – Hatrick
DOD: Mirriam – for continuing her very bad habit pre match, that resulted in Jess O (team dentist) threatening to refuse treatment for Mirriam’s alleged gum disease.
That evening, the team came together for the club social quiz night – though it’s still unclear who actually won and who was “helping” with the answers. Wan proved her history degree came in very useful, and Ellen’s medical knowledge definitely came in handy! It turns out that Abby has been in disguise as a middle aged woman and is in fact still a teenager. Her general knowledge however was very much beyond her years.
The late night karaoke session saw Jess H channelling her inner Miley Cyrus with Wrecking Ball, while Mirriam’s true Scottish spirit came out with The Proclaimers’ I’m Gonna Walk 500 Miles, joined by Abby and Jess R dancing with a random Men’s 3 player – a night full of laughs, music, and classic team banter. The real quiz question of the night remains unanswered – did anyone buy the weekly special that was advertised at the bar, Graham’s nuts for just 50p?"

"Richard Willmott and Will Brickell both scored penalty corners in a derby against a resilient M6s side. HMS P*ss the Quiz team also won the club pub quiz later on that evening.

Simon Healy reports: "Putting last weeks cup catastrophe firmly behind them, the GU16s put in a solid performance to maintain their 100% league record and up their goal difference to +28.
Burgess Hill started aggressively, flooding forward and leaving plenty of space for us to exploit. Our trademark pace and power up front saw us race into a 4-0 lead at half time.
Defensively we had several debutants who fitted in well alongside the two Flo’s. In front of them Lily and Anna controlled the midfield. The second half was more even as some of our team tired after three games in successive days. The home team scored a couple of scrappy goals, but the result was never in doubt, and Brighton added three more and forced several great saves as well.
Goal scorers: Grace (2), Alex (2) and Imo (3).
MoM: Lily for her non-stop energy and aggression."
