"A difficult game against third place in the league. Captain Adam Flett scored a penalty corner."
Woking W1s 2-3 BHHC W1s
Aoife Codyre reports: "Brighton W1s pulled off a brilliant comeback on the road, overturning a two-goal deficit to beat Woking 3–2 in a fiery and hard-fought contest.
Despite dominating much of the possession in the first half, Brighton found themselves 0–2 down at the break. Woking capitalised on a couple of lapses in concentration and adapted well to the pitch conditions, punishing Brighton with two clinical finishes.
The second half, however, was a completely different story. Brighton came out sharper, calmer, and far more clinical. The pressure finally told when Orla Lee opened the scoring from a penalty corner, sparking belief across the team. Momentum continued to swing Brighton’s way, and Grace McAlister slotted home the equaliser after sustained attacking pressure. With the game finely poised, it was captain Bara Owen who stepped up to convert a penalty corner to complete the comeback and secure all three points.
It was a feisty encounter throughout, with plenty of physical battles across the pitch. Interestingly, despite the intensity, both cards in the match were only shown in the final 90 seconds — a late reminder of how competitive the contest had been from start to finish.
A huge team effort underpinned the result, with Amanda commanding in goal, a solid defensive unit of Meg, Megs, Hannah, Anna, Honey, and Abby, tireless work in midfield from Bara, Aoife, sisters Sorrel and Orla, and attacking threats from Molly, Joey, and Grace.
This result sees Brighton climb the table at just the right time, heading into their final game of the season against Horsham with real confidence and momentum. As the team continues to grow, one message rings true:
“Successful repetitions build competence. Failed repetitions build resilience.”
Hero: Joey.
Goof: Aoife."

Alexandra Smart reports: "It was a surprisingly uneventful match for the W3s, for a change. No pre match or post match dramas and a pleasant game at The Triangle. The team welcomed Millie & Beth B who enjoyed their first 3s Powerpoint presentation.
Similar to last week, we smashed the first half. Issy M, Millie and Izzy K joined Wan in the forward line where she would have been very lonely without them. Their hassle up front won some great balls, and Millie’s brilliant feed to the right post was deflected in by Izzy K to give us the lead.
Beth B stepped to every ball with great strength in midfield – good to see that someone read the presentation. Abby won lots of balls in the screen with lovely distribution, and Ellen played a key role to transfer the ball from the back line. The real life Diva returned to boss the back line, ably assisted by Flo and her keepy uppies on the left and Elena’s strong line balls on the right. Emma covered every position in defence with her dominant tackles.
We may well be better suited to the international match format of 15 min quarters. Two 35 min halves really isn’t working for us and Jess could do with more time to eavesdrop on the opposition discussing their penalty corners. Ellen’s drag flicks might also be recognised as a legitimate shot on goal in a higher level game.
We held the lead well into the second half but with 12 minutes to go (when our international match would be finishing) we gave the ball away too many times and gave the opposition lots of attacking chances. Thankfully, Jess was fuelled with her usual Monster breakfast and dived from post to post to keep the ball out of the goal. As Burgess Hill teed the ball off and we dived for cover (definitely not a dangerous ball), they capitalised on the flying ball landing in the D and scored. Ellen very calmy questioned why every one of our lifted balls into the D were deemed dangerous, but this one was fine. We enjoyed learning lots of new rules we didn’t know about. The FIH possibly don’t know about them yet either.
With just a few minutes to go, Wan said that she really didn’t want another draw. The opposition won a penalty corner and on the second phase they had a nice shot that hit the roof and they went 2-1 up. Wan, as you wish. Doh. A final minute attack saw the ball at the our end of the pitch. Their left back managed to claim the ball and fanny around with it in the corner until the whistle went. Again, the type of game play you expect at an international level game.
PoM: Beth B, followed closely by Abby & Millie.
DoD: Emma for trying to play in her sunglasses."
