Hampstead & Westminster M2s 3-1 BHHC M1s
Patrick Ford reports: "The M1s once again got the train up to London for a tough game against league leaders Hampstead and Westminster M2s. The game started poorly with Brighton being out paced in Q1. The first goals came from two tidy finishes from Jake Davey, one a reaction to a save after a penalty corner and one a well taken goal from open play. Things then went from bad to worse as Tim Upchurch suffered an injury that took him off the pitch for the remainder of the game, dealing a tough blow to the Brighton defence. H&W scored again before the end of the first quarter as a shot from Jake Glew trickled under the keeper to leave the M1s 3-0 down after 17 minutes.
Facing a thrashing, Brighton then picked up their game and matched the opposition for the remainder of the game. There was a glimmer of hope in the final quarter as Alberto Martinez slapped a ball to James Rayward in the D, who deflected it into the goal with 10 minutes left to play. Unfortunately, despite a late green card for the home team, the game ended 3-1. A disappointing result after around 50 minutes of encouraging hockey.
The M1s travel away to Old Cranleighans next week, with 3 points needed to help survive in the National League."
BHHC W1s 0-0 Eastbourne W1s
Izzy Fludder reports: "Our team battled to a hard-fought 0–0 draw against Eastbourne W1s in a competitive match where both sides showed great determination.
Possession was evenly matched through the first three quarters, with both teams pushing hard for the breakthrough. In the final quarter, however, we clearly stepped up the intensity and dominated the play, piling pressure on the Eastbourne defence. There were some fantastic attacking moments, particularly the brilliant runs from Sorrel and Grace, who repeatedly drove the ball forward and created opportunities.
With only 12 players available, the team showed incredible work rate and resilience, covering huge distances and continuing to press until the final whistle. It was a disciplined performance from all. Although we deserved to come away with the win, the goal just wouldn’t come. Eastbourne’s goalkeeper delivered an outstanding performance, making several crucial saves to deny us despite the large number of short corners and shots on goal we created.
This result means we are now five games unbeaten, showing great consistency as we head into the final stretch of the season. With two matches left to play, the focus now turns to Woking away next week, where the team will be looking to turn strong performances into a well-earned victory.
Hero: Molly
Goof: Izzy (last game of the season and for BHHC)."

Guildford W3s 3-1 BHHC W2s
BHHC M3s 4-2 Crawley M1s
BHHC W3s 2-2 Mid Sussex W1s
Alexandra Smart reports: "The W3s put on a considerably better show on a surprisingly sunny morning at Blatch. With Mid Sussex climbing to second in the league since beating us 4-0 at our first encounter, we knew we had to step up our game.
With the injury bench now larger than the squad and turning into quite the social place to be on a Saturday, we were left with one defender. Ellen stepped into centre and nailed her Diva impersonation with solid tackles and great distribution. All she needs now is a car with door handles no one can open and a bottle of red. Answering the indeed.com ad for a defender with the best flat stick tackle and slap hit in Sussex, Vaughany made a guest appearance in the back line and bossed the left hand side of the pitch. Elena returned from sick bay and school activities to work the right side with lovely link up play with Izzy K and smashing balls up the line to Imo.
Without Ellen in her usual screen role, we had cameos from Issy M, Jess O and Beth who rotated between three lines, getting in on all of the action. Abby held the middle well with her usual running commentary and strong passes to feed the mids and forwards.
We dominated the first half with great attacking play, lead by Imo with rapid carries up the right, feeding the ball across to Wan, nestled into her favourite spot on the left post to pop the ball in. 1-0 up and things were looking good, until Mid Sussex capitalised on a quick break to leave Jess H in a 2v1 in the D and an equaliser. We had more successful circle entries than last week, helped by Jo holding the centre and laying off perfect balls into the D. Aided by a Mid Sussex defender – and Wan getting a touch as the ball came into the D – we went ahead just before half time.
Mid Sussex stepped it up a gear in the second half and we were fighting fires for what felt like the full 35 minutes. A successful penalty corner put them level, despite Jess H calling the routine, and Ellen and Jess H both getting a touch on the ball before it crossed the line. A draw felt like a fair result and our performance was considerably better than the past few weeks, so we’ll take the point.
Jess H’s cake stall and a fruity cider at the clubhouse wasn’t quite the Spanish or Middle Eastern feast of recent weeks, but it was all very ‘jolly’, as my mother described it.

Myles Ford reports: "10:15am start in Godalming on Mother’s Day? Not a problem for these Brighton boys as we ventured through the back lanes of Surrey to deliver a comprehensively dominant performance.
Brighton scored a goal in each half when Mort was finally allowed to beat a couple of defenders to slot home and Owen pounced on a rebound with a calm finish. The score line didn’t really reflect Brighton’s dominance, with Woody and Badger asking constant questions of the Guildford defence with Hector proving an able foil, Daniel and Amaan creating opportunities from wide positions, Mort’s elimination skills a constant threat and calm authority from the screen of Toby and Owen and back 3 of Zachary, Tom and Owen. Guildford were able to create opportunities from a definition of a short corner that can only be described as asymmetric, but Alfie was always on hand to make authoritative saves.
Brighton now top the table, just requiring a point at home to Lewes in 2 weeks to win the league."
Reigate Priory Girls U16 Polecats 0-8 BHHC Girls U16 Cormorants (pictured)
Simon Healy reports: "Another dominant display from the Cormorants. Probably the second best U16 performance of the weekend (shout out to Max Dowman!).
Reigate were short-handed (against our bare 11) but very energetic and gave us a good game for the first 20 minutes, but the result was never in doubt. Poppy and Grace scored hat tricks and Imo got the other two. The score allowed us to experiment with different positions giving others a chance to shine - Lily and Tilly had spells in attack, Imo and Poppy in defence. We also had Istria play well on debut, and Ivy kept another clean sheet. MoMs were Grace and Eva.
The win confirms us winning our league. We still have a 100% record with a game to go, and a ridiculous +44 goal difference. Just the old enemy Eastbourne in a fortnight to finish the perfect season."
