Twelve wins, three draws, and two hat tricks.

BHHC M1s 6-0 Sevenoaks M2s

BHHC W1s 6-0 Holcombe W2s
Aoife Codyre reports: "Saturday's home game against Holcombe W2s saw Brighton W1s put in a shift. While the pre-match chat with coach Alex involved an 'ill corner', Brighton W1s were determined to put the team's illness to one side and give it their all.

The first half started slow, with a spark of hope when we converted a penalty corner to a goal. Unfortunately, this was overturned but this wasn't going to let our W1s drop their heads. Bara led the charge by slotting in a stellar four goals, with a mix of open play powerhouse shots and technical penalty corners. Sorrel secured an additional two goals to extend our lead to 6-0 and add to her current scoring spree. The forwards flew about creating opportunities from start to end, the midfield line kept pressure hard on Holcombe, while the defensive line shut down any breaks and stayed composed throughout.

After four matches Brighton W1 see themselves at the top of the table, on equal points with Guilford W2 but pipping top spot with an impressive goal difference of 18 goals, with superb team-wide coverage of goals. Special mention to Joey Bryant, Sorrel Lee and Bara Owen, all sitting at the top of the league goal scorers, with each having scored hat tricks (+) in the league matches so far!

Hero of the match: Bara for her relentless work rate beyond her four goals.
Goof: Aoife for being patient zero with zero patience."

It was an action packed game for the 3s, filled with goals, no goals, cards, passion and controversy. We started strong with our focus on quick passing to work the ball up the pitch, aided by a tireless midfield unit of Georgie, Ellen, Lisa and Abby. A great ball into the D was expertly picked up by Ange to secure an early lead within 2 minutes.

Horsham countered just as quickly, utilising their very handy forward with Conference League experience on display, taking Emily by surprise as she was still digesting Graham’s sandwiches after a quick turnaround on a double header from Hailsham.

Despite defenders Diva, Flo, Beth and myself tag teaming marking two high forwards, their skilful goal scorer struck again before half time and we went into the break 2-1 down. We returned with determination and soon converted a penalty corner with a strike from Jo that put the ball 99 percent over the line. The ball came out of the goal, and back towards the goal again, hitting a Horsham foot on the line to come out for a second time. With a mad scramble around the keeper, Millie managed to finish the job and the advantage play went our way to put us at 2-2.

With a hat trick for our nemesis up front and a well converted penalty corner, we found ourselves 4-2 down, with a slightly frantic final quarter.

Jo clawed a goal back with an absolute corker of a backspace shot into the roof of the net. Unfortunately it was deemed dangerous with defenders in the firing line and we were remained stuck on 4-2. Not content with the level of drama, Jo then saw herself off with a yellow card for some angry stick action. A slap from Georgie into Rosie on the P spot for a textbook deflection was unfortunately also disallowed. On the sideline, Mirriam handled the situation with the calmness of Braveheart in battle.

It wasn’t the result we wanted but the performance was considerably better than the previous week, with lots of positives to build on. And some anger management courses to sign up to."

Mirriam Almashat reports: "Pizza and red wine were on the menu for the team’s consolation meal, where Alex (who, by the way, received DOD) decided it would be a brilliant idea to invite the opposition along for dinner. Because apparently, losing points on the pitch wasn’t enough - we had to socialise with them too! The evening also gave us the pleasure of witnessing Shelley’s interpretation of a bungee jump during charades, which raised several questions about her understanding of gravity. And, of course, no team meal would be complete without drunk Diva delivering her usual highly valuable hockey advice, which we're sure we will be taking absolutely seriously. All in all, the result might not have gone our way, but the pizza was good, the wine was flowing, and our dignity was well and truly left at the pitch.

PoM: Jo for (disallowed) goal of the season.
DoD: Alex for bringing Horsham to dinner."

Honey Batchelor-Lyons reports: "Brighton U18 Girls travelled to Eastbourne for a competitive U18 Trophy T2 encounter, eventually falling to a narrow 3–2 defeat despite taking on the challenge with just 10 players against Eastbourne’s 14. A numerical disadvantage, certainly, but not one that stopped Brighton from producing some excellent hockey.

Lily was instrumental at the back, distributing the ball superbly and helping Brighton build from deep. To her right were Flo B and Flo S who linked up brilliantly, combining to produce some strong attacking carries and put Eastbourne under pressure. Honey sent multiple aerials and some deceptive balls through to Grace and Sorrel, who created some great chances on goal. Grace also threatened with some dangerous circle entries, while Izzy led the charge out wide and came agonisingly close to adding her name to the scoresheet. The standout goalscoring contribution came from Sorrel, who found the backboard in the first half to keep Brighton firmly in the contest. With two goals on the board, Brighton had shown that, despite the numerical disadvantage, they had plenty to offer going forward.

Eva and Ellen also stepped up to represent the U18s, and you would hardly have known they were younger than their teammates. Both linked up well in attack, combining confidently and helping create some promising opportunities in front of goal. Ivy stood confidently in goal, swatting balls away like flies and kicking others out of play.

As the match progressed, Brighton took a broader view of the bigger picture. With progression to the next round potentially bringing a difficult challenge, the squad collectively decided to use the fixture as an opportunity to develop their play and prepare for the Plate competition. Rather than focusing solely on the result, the emphasis shifted towards building combinations, trying things out and making the most of the game as a learning experience.

Eastbourne eventually edged the contest 3–2, but Brighton could take plenty of positives from a performance played with 10 players against 14. With a first-half brace from Sorrel Lee, strong defensive distribution from Lily and some promising attacking combinations throughout, Brighton will look to carry those positives into the Plate."

BHHC Boys and Girls U10-U12 Ron Easton mixed tournament, Hurstpierpoint College (pictured).

Jenny Tasker reports: "Ron Easton - 2nd place! Great tournament and a brilliant start to the season! With a new team of girls, we won the play-offs and finished with the highest points total across all 10 teams which is a fantastic achievement, especially considering we didn’t have our own goalkeeper and had to borrow one or play without one! We then progressed to the final against EG. The match was drawn, so it went to a shuffle-off, which was a new experience for all the girls. It was incredibly close and neck-and-neck right up to the 12th player! We ultimately finished 2nd out of 10 teams, which is a brilliant result, and I suspect we may even have topped the overall points standings.

The girls worked brilliantly as a team. Midfielders Eleanor and Clara carried the play, whilst super-hitter Mollie was a powerhouse in defence. Maya also worked tirelessly as sweeper, keeping the opposition away from the D. Defensively, we conceded just 2 goals, while scoring an impressive 14 goals across the tournament: Eleanor 10, Malu 2, Rosie 1 and Hattie 1.

Overall, a fantastic team performance, lots of positives to build on, and a great start to the season. The only thing missing now is our own goalkeeper - so recruiting a GK is definitely top of the priority list! Well done to all the girls!"

Tom Clitheroe reports: "The U12 boys enjoyed a fine morning of hockey at the annual Ron Easton Tournament.
Finishing 3rd overall out of 9 teams, we won our group, and then avenged our defeat to Hawks in the final last year by winning a hard fought match 1-0. Losing the semi to the eventual and worthy winners Tunbridge Wells. A superb achievement. A special mention to Ethan for volunteering to go in goal - incredible performance for his first time wearing all that kit! In the true spirit of the Ron Easton he raised his stick to go in goal for other teams too. Emile, Jack, Seth, Harry C, Arthur, Lowen, Harry B were all supportive of each other and in applying so well the core skills their coach, Oli Bell, has been teaching them in training every week, showed just how much they have progressed this season. Well done boys.
Results (scorers) 0-0 Mid Sussex, 2-1 win v Worthing (Seth, Emile), 2-0 win v St Francis (Harry C, Emile), 0-0 v Lewes, 1-0 v Hawks (Emile), 0-2 v Tunbridge Wells."

Alexandra Smart reports: "The U10 Girls had a great afternoon at the Ron Easton tournament. They won two games, drew three and lost one, conceding just one goal across all matches. U9s Ivy, Abigail, Maisie, Alma and Nell rose to the challenge of their new age group and were well supported by U10s Audrey, Kaia, Sophia, Hermione and Sophie (GK).
Thank you to all of the parents for their fantastic support and baked goods!"
