Bromley & Beckenham W1s 2-3 BHHC W1s
Megan McCaughan reports: "The first game of the second half of the season saw Brighton Women’s 1s travel to Club Langley to face Bromley & Beckenham, producing a resilient and determined performance to secure a hard-fought victory in the final quarter.

Brighton started strongly after an excellent warm-up led by coach Alex. From the opening whistle, Brighton dominated possession, showing great structure across the pitch and doing a superb job of protecting the goal line. Excellent forward runs from Joey, Molly, Grace and Kayla, combined with fabulous positioning and movement from the midfield unit of Sorrell, Aoife, Bara and Izzy, kept Bromley on the back foot. At the other end, Hannah, Abby, Anna, Honey and Meg were outstanding in defence, making crucial block tackles and marking tightly to deny Bromley space. Despite Brighton’s early control, it was Bromley who struck first in the opening quarter. A loose ball was picked up on their left-hand side and a sharp passing move ended with a reverse-stick sweep into the goal from open play. Brighton felt there was a clear back-stick in the build-up, but the umpire stuck with his—let’s say—interesting decision, leaving Brighton trailing 1–0. Undeterred, Brighton maintained their intensity and continued to create chances. Several promising opportunities followed, including a couple of missed open goals, and despite sustained pressure Brighton still found themselves 1–0 down heading into the third quarter.

As frustration began to creep in, Brighton briefly lost their composure and conceded some possession. Bromley capitalised with a moment of brilliance on the counterattack: a lone forward broke through, rounded goalkeeper Amanda, and fired an outstanding reverse shot that left no chance, extending Bromley’s lead to 2–0. The fourth quarter, however, showcased Brighton at their very best. Upping the intensity by “five percent,” Brighton moved the ball with calm, short passes from defence through midfield and into attack. Off-the-ball work improved across the pitch, with everyone stepping up to support one another. The pressure paid off quickly. Molly Beard produced two moments of pure class, calmly lifting the ball over the diving Bromley & Beckenham goalkeeper on both occasions to bring Brighton level at 2–2. A deserved Player of the Match performance from Molly. With just five minutes remaining, Brighton refused to settle for a draw. A string of short corners followed, and finally the breakthrough arrived. A powerful drag flick from Big Baz forced a rebound from the keeper, which fell to the ever-composed young star Grace. Under pressure from an onrushing defender, she kept her nerve and slipped the ball left to Meg at the top of the D, who smashed it home between the keeper and the left post to complete a dramatic comeback and seal a 3–2 victory.

A fantastic team performance and a true demonstration of Brighton’s core values: Determination, Resilience, Accountability and Support (DRAS).

Player of the match : Molly
Goof of the day : Meg (running on the pitch without gumshield)."

Jenny Tasker reports: "Lewes v U12G.
A strong set of results with 3 wins and 1 loss, conceding only 2 goals across all four games.
There was some excellent passing throughout the matches, particularly from Clara in midfield and Millie in defence, linking up brilliantly with Eleanor, who helped drive home the goals. Lovely team play from all the players. With a 50/50 split of Year 6 and Year 7 players, and coming up against some very tall and strong opposition, the girls delivered an amazing performance in every game. Very pleased to have missed the rain!
Goals: Eleanor 7, Olivia 3, Clara 3, Sienna 1
Player of the Match: Millie Fitchett – outstanding in the sweeper position. She worked tirelessly across all four matches, stopping the ball before it reached the midfield line and using her great speed to track back and defend the goal whenever needed.
A big thank you to Anna and Liam for their help and support."
