Men's results 11-12 October 2025

H Moro15 Oct - 12:56

Three wins, one draw and some difficult defeats, including a club derby.

Brighton & Hove M1s 0-3 Spencer M1s
Patrick Ford reports: "Brighton & Hove produced a spirited performance on Saturday evening but were ultimately undone by a clinical Spencer M1s side, falling 3–0 in the EHL Men’s Conference East clash under the lights at Blatchington Mill.

The match began with Brighton on the front foot, showing composure in possession and intent to attack. Early exchanges saw the hosts move the ball sharply through midfield, in a more measured way than seen in Q1 in recent weeks. A well-worked move down the right nearly opened the scoring, only for a deflection to take the ball narrowly wide of the far post. Spencer capitalised on their first clear chance of the game, winning a penalty corner in the 10th minute which William Whitmore dispatched powerfully into the bottom corner. Brighton responded positively, pressing higher and creating another promising opening midway through the half, when another driven cross across the D was inches from finding a finishing touch. Despite a green card to Edward Zeidler on 19 minutes, Brighton held firm defensively, with goalkeeper Chris Borsoi making a fine save from another penalty corner to keep the deficit at one heading into half-time.

The hosts began the second half with renewed purpose, but a green card for Tim Upchurch on 40 minutes stalled their momentum. Spencer took advantage shortly after, as Samuel Byrne doubled the visitors’ lead with a composed finish from open play in the 44th minute. Brighton continued to threaten, with a series of circle entries and a reverse-stick effort that forced a strong block from the Spencer keeper. However, Byrne struck again on 51 minutes to effectively settle the contest, before Whitmore converted a second penalty corner in the 64th minute to seal a 3–0 victory.

While the scoreline flattered the visitors, Brighton’s performance contained plenty of positives — disciplined defending, creative passages of play, and several chances that, with some goal scoring work, could have drastically changed the scoreline."
