Katy Furber and Steve Perry took the player of the year honours for Brighton & Hove Hockey Club's first teams as 180 members and guests celebrated at the annual end-of-season dinner dance at The Old Ship Hotel on Saturday night.

Katy's goals helped Brighton to a creditable third place in the South East premier division while Steve shone consistently in the midfield as the men enjoyed a stunning end to their MHL Division One South campaign, finishing comfortably in mid-table.

The women's top goalscorer award went to Christine Cawte while the men's award was shared after going to the last day of the season when Liam Coleman's hat-trick and Mike Burney's double left them level on 24 apiece.

Patrick Ford was voted boys young player of the year, developing well over the season and playing regularly for the men's 2s by the end of it. Abby Furber made it a family double by winning the girls award, playing for the under-16s and moving up from the women's 4s to play for the 2s and making a couple of appearances with her sister in the 1s.

Julia Shorrocks was honoured for her unstinting service as club secretary by being made a life member and the club wishes her and her husband Steve well with their impending move to the Isle of Wight.
