More than 30 members and supporters take part in 5km fun run in club colours

The first Brighton and Hove Hockey Club 'parkrun takeover' of the summer on Saturday June 22 on the Hove seafront was a success - great weather and more than 30 members and supporters taking part.

Organiser Andrew Bromley is now looking forward to the July run in Preston Park and seeing even more runners there.

His idea of a 'parkrun takeover' is designed to help members stay fit by taking part in a monthly 5km fun run in the city over the summer, lining up for a Saturday morning run in your club shirt (home or away) with fellow BHHC members on various courses - on Hove seafront (June 22), in Preston Park (July 27), the new parkrun circuit in East Brighton (August 17) and Hove Park (September 7).

New men's second team captain Andrew, who started the initiative last summer, says: "The parkrun is a 5k fun run that loads of BHHC members do already; however it would be great to co-ordinate a few days and publicise the club some more."

It will also help with pre-season fitness or to run off any summer holiday excesses and get club members together in a fun environment. What's more it is free to enter - all you have to do is register if you haven't already.

Andrew is asking all BHHC members (all ages, playing and non-playing) to turn up in their home or away BHHC club shirt. He says BHHC runners should meet at 8.45am before the races and then get together for post-run coffee and cake, a chat with fellow members and other runners to raise the profile of the club.

Last August, BHHC members got a shout out from the MC at the Hove Promenade parkrun and Izzy Dodds managed to recruit two new members during the race!

Parkrun is a series of 5km runs held on Saturday mornings (starting at 9am) in areas of open space around the UK. They are open to all, free, and are safe and easy to take part in. To register with parkrun UK is free and can be done by visiting www.parkrun.org.uk
