Important changes to the Junior Girls section at BHHC for the new season

David Chappell14 Aug 2022 - 16:35

Clare Garewal and Karen Edwards management roles, use of Slate for match fees and a plea for help

A letter from the Girls Club Manager

Dear All,

We hope that you're all enjoying the summer and the gorgeous weather. We have important updates for you before the start of next season. Please read these three points carefully and take actions where relevant.

Change to the Girls section management

I (Clare Garewal) have taken on the role of Girls Club Manager from Karen Edwards.

I will deal with all matters relating to the Sunday U18, U16 and U14 teams, Sussex Junior Development Centres, Sussex Junior Academy Centres and the England Hockey Talent Academies.

Karen is staying involved to assist me and will deal with all matters relating to the Saturday Sussex Development teams, the U12s, U10s and U9s groups.

The bhhc.girlsclubmanager@gmail.com email will be used by me (it has already been handed over). Karen has a new email address - karenedwards.hockey@gmail.com

Slate collection of match fees

We need all match fees to be collected via the Slate App to mirror the Adults and the Boys sections who already use this very effectively.
The club is too large for collection of match fees to be in cash and it is unfair on managers to have to deal with cash on top of all their other responsibilities.
If you have any concerns about this then please let us know before the beginning of the season, otherwise we will assume that you are happy to use this method of payment.

Action needed now for those parents who are not already using Slate to collect fees

Please ensure that the email address that you have entered on your daughter's registration on Pitchero (as the adult's email address) is the email that you are happy for the Club to use for Slate.
Ramzy Omran (the Brighton & Hove Club treasurer) will use this to send you a password so that you can download the Slate app and link that account to your child.
After each match the team manager will then request a payment from you that comes as an email from Slate.
You then open the app and approve the payment.

A further please for urgent help

Marie Jarvis (the BHHC Women's Club Captain) sent an email regarding numerous unfilled posts throughout the club and Myles Ford, the Juniors Club Captain, sent another one on July 20, 2022.

None of these posts have since been filled.

There are over 200 juniors in the Club. All the posts are manned by volunteers who are struggling to keep on top of the workload that running a large, successful and progressive club demands.

If anyone out there feels that they can offer some help then we would love to hear from you. We understand that pitchside work managing a team requires some hockey knowledge and often parents share roles which makes delivery easier. We are also desperate for administrative helpers to fill roles that don't require any hockey knowledge.

Ultimately the teams listed below cannot run without any adult helpers and will need to be withdrawn from the league if there are no takers.

The posts needing filing are:

Juniors Umpires Secretary

Juniors Membership Secretary

Girls Welfare Officer

Pitchside Manager and Admin Girls U16s Ospreys team tier 3 Sunday

Pitchside Manager and Admin Girls U14s Puffins team tier 3 Sunday (new team)

Pitchside Manager and Admin Girls U12s team Sunday occasional tournaments

Pitchside Manager and Admin Girls U10s team Sunday occasional tournaments

Pitchside Manager and Admin Girls U16s Development team 'Starlings' (mainly U14s and U12s) on a Saturday

Pitchside Manager only Girls U16s Development team 'Gulls' (mainly U14s and U12s) on a Saturday (admin already in place, Louise Batchelor-Lyons)

Please contact us if you are able to fill any of these roles, or if you have any further queries.

We are all very excited about the upcoming season!

Many thanks ,

Clare Garewal (07803 505638) and Karen Edwards (07782 147742)
