Dina Finn has been selected for the Hockey Ireland under-16 squad to play in an eight-nations international tournament near Barcelona next week (July 11 to 17).
She played her first matches for Ireland in a three-game series in Edinburgh against Scotland last weekend, helping her side to win that 2-1. After losing the opening game 4-0, Ireland won the next two 2-1 and 2-0. "First match was a fluke as most of the team were up at 2am to get the flight from Dublin and were shattered by 5pm for the first match," said Dina's mother, Masha.
The Irish coach was pleased with the squad's performance. "What a weekend for this U16 group. Lots of learning, development and improvement with a fantastic performance today."
Ireland will play against Spain, Netherlands and Austria in group B in Terrassa next week with the top two teams qualifying for the semi-finals.
Dina played in the Brighton & Hove HC under-16 girls team who won the EH Plate competition in April and was a regular member of the club's women's 1s last season. She has also been selected for the England Hockey Performance Centre Challenge Cup for Under-15s in Nottingham from July 26 to 28, representing Southampton.
All BHHC members send Dina congratulations and wish her well in the tournaments in Spain and Nottingham.
