BHHC players help keep the ball 'live' for 12 hours on a hot July Saturday - all in a good cause

Despite scorching July heat hockey players from all over Sussex - including Brighton and Hove HC - helped to make Crowborough Hockey Club's 12-hour 'Hockeython' a great success, with £4,000 raised from participation and sponsorship going directly to the Help for Heroes charity.

The 'Hockeython' on Saturday July 13 ran continuously from 8am to 8pm at the Beacon Academy and the ball was kept live continuously for 12 hours. Organiser Vicky Wayman posted thanks to all those taking part, including the "last minute Brighton contingent". Players from BHHC's women's 5s, 6s and 7s featured during the day.

Crowborough HC wanted to raise funds for the Help for Heroes charity and, inspired by the Hockey for Heroes Nepal record attempt, organised the 'Hockeython' on a range of hours, featuring girls and boys, women's and men's matches and a three-hour Mixed Hard Core Challenge at the end. Crowborough reached out to other clubs to play alongside them in their challenge of choice or as an opposition team and players from BHHC, Lewes, East Grinstead, Hailsham, Edenbridge and Sussex Martlets all rallied to help the cause.

Well done to everyone who took part.
