Congratulations to 14-year-old on passing his Level 1 award, appeal to other BHHC members

Congratulations to 14-year-old Callum Shuttlewood, who passed his Level 1 Umpiring award on Saturday with flying colours. He started umpiring recently, took the online Level 1 Theory course and in two months gained the qualification.

Umpiring the men’s 7s against Crowborough 2s Blatchington Mill School pupil Callum gave an impressive performance with a high score and was highly complimented by the Crowborough captain. “Our best umpire this season,” he said.

Callum also plays for Brighton & Hove's Under-16 Boys and the men's 9s.

"The club would welcome players, whether junior or adult, to take the Level 1 Umpiring award with the initial aim to help umpire our many teams, at least on an occasional basis," says Alan Grey, Sussex Young Umpires Coach and coordinator and long-standing BHHC member.

"Please let your captain or Jess Harris and Dickie Barnes know that you would like to try umpiring. It is a struggle each week for Jess and Dickie to fulfil the fixtures. Coaching is available to help you achieve the award. The club needs you!"
