An amazing 15 women from Brighton & Hove Hockey Club attended the South East Women's Masters trials on Sunday with the hope of gaining regional representation and playing in the regional tournaments this summer.
Brighton's Alison Wheatley, herself an England Over-55s international, is delighted and proud at the turnout. "Over the last couple of years I've been trying to encourage our Over-35 women to get involved in Masters hockey," she said. "Two years ago just two Brighton & Hove women attended the South East trials as the regions were split into eight. Last year we saw the numbers double with five attending.
This year we've smashed it with 15 women attending trials. This is great news regarding promoting Brighton & Hove Hockey Club and yesterday at the trials across the age groups from Over-35 to Over-65s it was wonderful to see so many Brighton faces and hoodies!
The BHHC women currently trialling are:
Over-35s - Pip Tanner, Lucy Thomas.
Over- 40s - Joey Bryant, Andrea Catlow, Alex Smart , Stephanie Kalber.
Over- 45s - Amanda Billington, Kelly Sharp.
Over- 50s - Ange Farthing, Shelley Formstone, Amanda Peers, Donna Martin.
Over-55s - Ali Wheatley, Julia Shorrocks.
Over-60s - Kath Sealy.
In addition, our wonderful Wendy Russell is coaching the Over-55 women this season. She will no doubt have a huge impact on the squad who will strive for victory at the regional tournament.
I'd like to thank all the above women for getting involved with the South East trials and helping to put Brighton Women's Masters on the map - I wish them all every success and the chance to wear a very bright orange shirt!"
