Ali and Joey are golden girls with England Masters

BHHC duo continue their successful international runs

The England Masters successes for Brighton & Hove Hockey Club's Ali Wheatley and Joey Bryant just keep coming as both brought home gold in the recent European Championships.

Joey was in Nottingham representing the Over-40s while Ali was in Valencia, Spain, with the Over-55s.

Joey says: "After winning the Home Nations in Swansea we went into the competition feeling pretty confident, although we didn't know what to expect from Spain as we hadn't played them before. However, we played brilliantly and won all our matches. We faced Ireland in the final and came away with a 4-0 win, which keeps our undefeated record.

Coming home with gold was one of the best feelings I've ever had. Thanks to Ali Wheatley for motivating me to go for it this season and I urge anyone else on the fence to give Masters hockey a go."

Ali (pictured above) travelled to Valencia with the Over-55s, playing in gruelling temperatures of 37 degrees!

She says: "We beat Spain 5-0, Belgium 5-0, Ireland and Wales and were hoping to face the Netherlands in the final but they fell 1-0 to the Scots so we faced them yet again for the gold. A solid and professional performance gave us the 2-0 win to complete the triple - Home Nations, World Cup and now European Champions - it doesn't get better than that!

We kept a clean slate and I was awarded player of the match against Spain - scored a couple of cheeky crackers! The whole experience was incredible and the passionate and determined squad had the privilege of an incredible management team, family, friends and supporters behind us. I'm exceptionally humbled and proud to have played with such an amazing group of women and to have experienced such an incredible journey.

September will see the entire process begin again as we make the bid for the World Cup 2024 and, like Joey, I urge all Masters players to get involved at some level - dreams can come true."
