Leadership skills played their part in deciding the elite players of the season in Brighton & Hove Hockey Club annual awards at the club's dinner dance on Saturday night.

Adam Flett, the men's first XI captain, and Nia Simpkins, who has stood in for Bara Owen this season as skipper of the women's 1s, were announced as the winners in front of 200 guests at The Old Ship Hotel.

The Golden Glove award - introduced this year for the team goalkeeper in the club who conceded the least goals this season - went to Steph Kalber and Alice Mould of the women's 5s who only let in 18 between them.
