The second Brighton & Hove Hockey Club 'parkrun takeover' of the summer saw Hidetomo Moro and Joey Bryant leading the 30-strong contingent of members over the finish line on Hove Promenade on Saturday.

Before the 5km run club chair Cameron Heath addressed the runners with a tribute to former member and enthusiastic 'parkrun takeover' supporter Lucy Spearman, who passed away this summer.

The four Saturday 'parkrun takeovers’ for 2024 in the city this summer are August 10 in East Brighton Park; on Hove Promenade on August 17; in Preston Park on August 24 and on August 31 in Hove Park. All BHHC players, supporters, umpires and parents of all ages are welcome.

The 'parkrun takeover' was conceived six years ago and is designed to help BHHC members stay fit in the off season by taking part in one or all of the local Saturday 'parkrun takeovers’ in August. It means lining up for a Saturday morning 5km fun run in your club shirt (home or away) with fellow club members. Parkrun is free to enter - all you have to do is register if you haven't already (details below).

James Millar has taken over the 'parkrun takeover' organisation and is asking all BHHC members (all ages, playing and non-playing) to turn up in their home or away BHHC club shirt. He suggests BHHC runners should meet at 8.45am before the race and then get together for post-run coffee and cake, a chat with fellow members and other runners to raise the profile of the club.

Parkrun is a series of 5km runs held on Saturday mornings (starting at 9am) in areas of open space around the UK. They are open to all, free, and are safe and easy to take part in. To register with parkrun UK is free and can be done by visiting www.parkrun.org.uk
