Because we're Worth(ing) it
By Phil Orriss
The 2's march on
Worthing , whoahhhho,
They gave Sam Grew the ball,
And Sam Grew scored f-all.
Firstly apologies for the profanity, it's 7.48 on a Monday morning as I'm typing this so my brain hasn't really kicked into gear yet. In my defence though, if you saw the miss you'd also swear/blaspheme/sell your own mother. The pass only needed the tiniest of teeny tiny tap ins, but Mr Grew almost hit the corner flag instead. A well deserved DoD.
Speaking of DoD, it has been decided this year or until channel 4 get their grubby mits on it, that the DoD has to (attempt to) bake the showstopper from the previous week's GBBO. This week was pastry week and the honour fell to Hore who as usual put his unique twist on proceedings and conjured up a sweet samosa with bananas and chocolate, the recipe is hopefully not available anywhere, but it did actually taste quite nice so we're giving him a 7 this week.
Back to the hockey and it was the turn of Worthing to face the mighty Brighton in the Sussex Cup. In fairness they were a stronger opponent then anticipated, but the result was largely a formality with us winning 4-0. The first goal coming from new Dad Rich Leonard after a short corner routine only practised 2 minutes before the game. The 2nd from an Alex Coyle drag-flick, getting his uni weight behind it. The 3rd from Saul Emery somehow and the 4th from Ryan Pruce, again from a new short corner routine.
Speaking of English/young/blonde/small Ryan, we have to say goodbye to this mild mannered, good natured 17 year old as next week he turns 18. We're fully expecting him to turn up hungover or still in his clothes from the night before each week and are looking forward to his DoD contribution being a kebab from the previous evenings activities. There is a party, but as of yet the whole team's invitations haven't arrived, there's probably a postal strike or something.
The league starts next week when we are at home to BBHC and the 2's are in buoyant mood following a strong pre-season with a lot of new players making the squad. Can we keep the momentum going and get some early points on the board? Can we cope for 3 weeks without Hore? The answer to these questions and many more will be revealed as the season unveils.
Good luck to all of those/us involved, I'll leave you with an inspirational quote
'Be Bold, be Proud, be Essential'
P.S. A few small points to note
- Dan Hodgkin got MoM.
- The other Ryan is also called Irish/dark haired/big/old Ryan
- We have a new Frenchman, welcome Pieter
