Fun, exercise, new recruits and post-event gathering on the seafront

On Saturday, 25 Brighton and Hove Hockey Club players and supporters, proudly displaying their BHHC shirts, took part in the Hove Promenade parkrun.

The idea of 'parkrun takeover' came from new men's third team captain Andrew Bromley, who asked all BHHC members (all ages, playing and non-playing) to turn up to the seafront parkrun on August 18 in their home (blue) BHHC club shirt.

It was as much to have fun as to publicise the club, help with pre-season fitness, run off any summer holiday excesses and get together with friends and fellow players.

Andrew reports: "We met just before the set off (some earlier than others!). Following a shout out to the hockey club by the MC, we set off on the 5k fun run along Hove Promenade, under grey sky, under the watchful i360 and with cloud overhead.

"The run was much more enjoyable than usual, as every time you caught sight of another BHHC player, you'd get a boost. Especially helpful when you were running in to a headwind!

"Izzy Dodds was the first women home (time unknown) and incredibly, managed to recruit two new members on her way round! Great stuff. First gent in was Russ Perkins, who ran a parkrun PB of 19 minutes 45 seconds.

"Post parkrun saw a mixture of coffee and cake consumed and general inter-club chit chat and banter! Great fun all round - watch this space for the next one!"

Well done to all who took part and to Andrew for organising.

Parkrun is a series of 5km runs held on Saturday mornings in areas of open space around the UK. They are open to all, free, and are safe and easy to take part in. To register with parkrun UK is free and can be done by visiting www.parkrun.org.uk
