James Murphy and Adam Flett on target for BHHC

Brighton and Hove HC's men started their season with a 2-2 draw against East Premier League opposition Bedford HC on Saturday.

New men's 2s captain Andrew Bromley reports: "Bedford opened the scoring with a zigzag run through the Brighton defence followed by a sharp finish. Brighton responded shortly afterwards with a James Murphy goal from almost the baseline! Brighton took the lead through an unstoppable Adam Flett dragflick but alas, Bedford levelled."

In the build-up to the new National League Division One season BHHC have planned several friendly fixtures. Captain Luke Owen says he hopes to confirm a game for Saturday September 7 before matches away to Birmingham University (Saturday September 14) and Oxford Hawks (Sunday September 15). Brighton will also travel to Chichester on Saturday September 21 and are looking to arrange an additional midweek fixture.

The men's 2s opened the season with a 3-1 win against Bedford 2s. "However, it was Bedford that opened the scoring, after the ball had bounced around the D a few times, a forward finally flicked home," reports Andrew.

"Brighton responded shortly afterwards through a Nathan Tyler reverse hit. Archie Shields then got himself on the scoresheet with a cracking drag flick. The game was closed out midway through the second half, with Luke Owen deflecting another Shields dragflick high into the Bedford goal.

"Thanks go to Bedford, who travelled a long way to make the fixture happen and were excellent guests. Thanks also to the umpires for starting their season so early!"
