Juniors weekend review - Ayla keeps Reigate at bay with fine saves

Brighton and Hove’s under-12 girls won an exciting league match 3-1 away to Reigate at the weekend.

“The sun shone for an exciting away match, with our girls looking confident, showing improved fitness from the start and playing well in a number of different positions,” reports Claire Hamburger.

“Our girls took control early with great tackles and passes from Lucy and in the first five minutes Lara scored a lovely first goal across the D from a short corner through the keeper’s legs. The girls kept up the pressure with some excellent marking and bold attacks from Bea, impressive tackles and passes from Orla, Tessa and Charlie.

“The second quarter saw continued teamwork with lovely attack and strong passes from Livia and Izzy and consistently strong defence from Daisy and Isolda. Sophie gave us some good opportunities we couldn’t quite convert and there was some brilliant goalkeeping from Ayla to keep Reigate from scoring when they broke through.

“In the second half the girls kept up the pressure with some expert tackles from Evie and a confident intercept by Erin to stop a runaway Reigate opportunity. Reigate fought hard and Ayla saved a series of goal attempts with some lovely kick outs.

“The excitement peaked in the last quarter when Daisy scored a lovely goal taking us to 2-0; Reigate finally scored from a valiant solo run but Brighton came right back with another brilliant goal from Daisy supported by confident mids and forwards giving a final score of 3-1.

“Girl of the match selected by the opposition was well deserved by Ayla. Manager Claire Connell was proud of the whole team and awarded her girl of the match jointly to Daisy and Isolda for their hard work and determination.”
