Brighton 3s beat Eastbourne 2s (24th January 2015) 2-1 win! Eastboune 2s were the only team to take 6 points off us last season so it was about time we put things right.
The day started with what could only be described as the most under whelming hand over of a player of the season award ever known. Rob Noble was asked by Ed to jog across the pitch before the warmup and was passed the trophy without even a hand shake! Lovely Stuff!
Following a decent warm up, Brighton made a good start to the game catching Eastbourne on the counter attac a number of times. One of the early breaks lead to a short corner which Willmott managed to get a bit more than usual on it (nearly taking the def head off) making it 1-0. Soon after it was 2-0 following another break. Jamie slipped the ball to JC who calmly pushed the it home. Eastbourne finally put the pressure on and score from a PC following a decent save from Zac.
The game continued in the same vain during the 2nd half. Jacob and John made good use of the wide channels while Rob, Pagie and Jon Weir kept things tight in midfield. Willmott was wrong footed by an Eastbourne forward and went over on his ankle. To rub salt into Willmott wound, we then had 5 PCs. After some intresting variations, Nathan decided enough was enough and tucked one in at the far post.
A late rally from Eastbourne forced Zac into making some solid saves. They did managed to scored a 2nd goal, a tidy reserve stick finish, but it was too little too late. Overall a solid 3 points and a good start to the league campaign.
