Beating Old Willie's with sticks
They listen to Dan Hore more than we do...
It's getting to the business end of the season now and all sorts of permutations are being calculated by oversized computers in data warehouses across the land....
If Horsham beat Valence this weekend what happens?
If BBHC beat OW's is that enough?
Most importantly though, if we beat Canterbury this weekend will we be promoted?
This is the question that has been in the papers this week, especially after our emphatic 4-1 victory over Old Williamsonians at the weekend, and what a game it was....
With our unrivalled squad depth we were able to name a changed, but still ridiculously strong team. Clean sheet Stevie was with us again after the shut out at Kings and Joel was back from doing something really well. The game itself got off to a brilliant start as George didn't mess up with his first touch for once. In fact throughout the whole game he didn't put a foot wrong. OW's were a tough opposition at their place and they set out their stall early here with a very high press which stifled us and meant we couldn't really get going for long periods of the games. The first goal went to OW's when a ball fell to their forward who took it on the half volley. CSS got a hand to it but was only able to deflect it into the opposite corner and the spin carried it over the line. Undetered we pressed on and were rewarded with an equaliser through a Dan Trigwell following a flowing move from the team . We added to this not long after when Alex Coyle dragflicked into the bottom corner from a short.
Half time came and I've know idea what the talk was about as I went to the little boys room so I'll guess...
Dan: 'During the war...'
Rich: 'Can anyone smell baby sick?'
Mike: 'My legs hurt'
Charlie: 'Pass the sweets'
Into the second half and it was again a midfield battle with little being created for either keeper to worry about. There were a few niggles from both teams and a couple of cards were shown but nothing that the umpires couldn't handle. 2 further goals were scored by us through Trigwell and Ryan and the 3 points were sewn up. This came could have unravelled our whole season so it was particularly pleasing to get the win against a very tough opposition. We're now 9 points clear of OW's with only 12 points to play for. 2 more victories and we will be home and dry, although this starts with Canterbury who are notoriously difficult to beat at home.
Teas were had though and fines dished out. Dan also was spotted giving advice about the bars and clubs of Brighton to OW's who were planning an evening out by the coast. Little did they know that he is the combined age of Ryan and Callum and hasn't been to a club since they held waltzes on the promenade. Having said that, a few of us braved Brighton later on that evening and did in fact see OW's in Dan's recommended bar! Maybe they live in a parallel universe where Dan is actually worth listening to...
DoD went to Joel, for what though I can't remember. I'll assume it's for doing things really well
MoM went to Ryan, a solid forwards performance, setting up chances and scoring a goal himself. The fact it was a far post tap in makes it all the sweeter for those that have been at training this year and seen him miss thousands upon thousands of them! Well done buddy!
Bake rating - Again, no bake! We are now owed by Joel, George, Joel again, Hore and Cameron. GET IN THE KITCHEN BOYS!
