BHHC's youngsters turn the tables on East Grinstead

The Brighton and Hove girls Under-10s shone at the Burgess Hill tournament on Sunday, only conceding one goal in four matches, two of which were won.

Brighton and Hove's Under-10 girls teams shared the spoils in league matches with East Grinstead on Sunday, with the first XI going down 4-0 and the seconds winning 4-2. However BHHC got their revenge at the Burgess Hill tournament later, beating East Grinstead's senior team 1-0.

Manager Clare Hamburger said of the Under-10 league loss to East Grinstead 1s: "The girls tried hard against a well organised East Grinstead first team, hitting the post twice and creating some great chances. Disappointed to lose, they were determined to get revenge at the tournament!"

Of the 2s 4-2 victory over their East Grinstead counterparts, Clare said: "With the whole team defending brilliantly and working for each other, the girls built on their early lead, thanks to goals from Tessa, Honey (2) and an own goal. Great team work! Player of the day goes to Honey."

At the Burgess Hill tournament Brighton fielded an Under-10 team with some Under-9 players, playing four matches.

"The girls were unfortunate to lose 1-0 against Mid-Sussex (the eventual tournament winners) in what would prove to be the only goal conceded by B&H Under-10s all tournament," said Clare. "Some cracking saves by Sophie in goal - well done!"

Of a 0-0 draw with Burgess Hill 1s, Clare remarked: "A great match, very even and good to have so many new players have a go on the pitch in new positions!".

Brighton then won 1-0 against East Grinstead 1s. "Revenge! A great goal from Tessa was what separated the two teams as the girls worked hard to keep the ball from East Grinstead’s hungry strikers!"

They also won 1-0 against Burgess Hill 2s. "Sorrell scored the only goal of the match. The team fought hard and were disappointed not to score more goals, once again keeping a clean sheet," Clare said.

"Congratulations to Nia from the Under-9s for getting the player of the day award. She listened well and was happy to be rotated and never lost her enthusiasm to play against older girls."
