"Fantastic response" says Luke Cain-Williams as places are snapped up in two weeks

Update: The Level 1 umpiring course at Blatchington Mill School on Sunday November 25 being run by England Hockey is now full and Luke Cain-Williams, Brighton and Hove Hockey Club's Umpire Co-ordinator, says the response from members and other clubs has been "fantastic".

The 24 places were filled in just over two weeks and Luke says people should now stop searching the England Hockey website for the course.

Details of the Level 1 umpiring course at Blatchington Mill School on Sunday November 25 being run by England Hockey have now been released and Luke Cain-Williams, BHHC's Umpire Co-ordinator, is urging Brighton and Hove Hockey Club members to sign up quickly as places are limited.

"This is our big chance to increase the quality and quantity of our club umpires so we want to get as many BHHC members interested as we can," says Luke.

The course is now on the England Hockey website available for bookings at:
http://www.englandhockey.co.uk/courses.asp?section=296&sectionTitle=Find+a+Course

The deadline for registration is Wednesday November 14 or until the 24 places have been filled. Places are first come first served (it is open to all clubs, not just BHHC) and only secure when booked and paid for online. The cost is £50 and minimum number of participants is 14.

The full-day course is for anyone who is going to be umpiring the 11-a-side game and is aimed at new and inexperienced umpires. It comprises five modules, including a pre-course online rules test, the game from the players' perspective, the role of the umpire, player management and preparation and planning the next steps. As England Hockey says: "Umpiring is a great way to be involved in hockey. It gives you the opportunity to give something back to the sport you love, whilst also helping to widen participation."

You will receive an excellent introduction to umpiring hockey and the course will equip you with many of the skills and confidence to do so effectively.

The cost of the course is £50, which covers the full one-day course and includes a starter pack including whistle and cards and membership to Sussex Hockey Umpires Association (SHUA). Once the course is completed the participant will be a level 1 club umpire (unassessed).

The benefits of the course include:
Match fees waived if playing and umpiring on the same day so you play for free! A potential saving of over £100 per season if you were to umpire every home game.
You help increase the quantity and quality of our BHHC umpires.
Will help improve your hockey playing through understanding the game's rules and how the are applied.
