Brighton and Hove Hockey Club is always looking to welcome new players to the club. Whether you are a top class international or someone who hasn't played since school or whether you have always fancied playing and now are taking the plunge, Brighton and Hove is the club for you.

We have a flourishing social section also so whatever standard you are, you will always find friends post match in the bar !

At a Planning Meeting held at Hove Town Hall last Wednesday the club and Blatchington Mill School received planning permission for two new astros.

We still have alot of hard work ahead but hope to commence work on the pitches later this year and hope to be playing at our new home by the start of the 2012/13 season.

The club will be supporting England Hockey at the Takepart Sports Festival at Preston Park on Saturday 25th June.   The event runs all day and England Hockey will be persent with their roadshow enabling people to test their hockey skills and meet GB players.  Come along and visit the roadshow.

The AGM will be held on Thursday 30th June at 7.30pm at the Clubhouse.

Please make every effort to attend and have your say in how the club is run.

If you would like to stand for a position or feel you have something to add to how the club is run please let Julia or Thompo know.  Aside from captaincy we have a number of other smaller roles to fill which are vital to enable the club to grow and develop in what hopefully will be a very exciting season for the club.    

The bar will also be open.

Sophie Benton has been selected for the England U18 Hockey team.

She was called up to train with the squad last weekend at Bisham Abbey, where the head coach told her that she has improved since they last assessed her.

Martin Rogers (England U18 Girls - Team Manager) has told Sophie that she has been selected for the England U18 Hockey Team as the non-travelling reserve goalie for the forthcoming matches in Belgium and he asked her to keep all training and international match dates free, so that she can play at a moment's notice if either of the two goalie's in the team is injured or not 'on form'.

She is obvioulsy delighted and keeping her fingers crossed that she may get the chance to play as they have 3 further fixtures after Belgium.

We are please to announce our Sunday Hockey Club will be starting this Sunday the 15th of May at the Falmer Sports Complex. There are sessions for 6 to 15 year olds.

Sessions to be held on 15th, 22nd May, 12th, 19th, 26th June & 3rd July.

6-11 years old - 10am-11am (on 22nd May session will start at 12pm)

11-15 years old - 11am-12pm (on 22nd May session will start at 1pm)

PARKING CHANGES AT SUSSEX UNIVERSITY

The University are enforcing parking restrictions as from 1st February 2011.

If you are parking at the Uni between 5pm-8pm Monday to Friday and 8am-8pm on a Saturday you will need a parking voucher.  On arrival go to the reception and tell them you are there for hockey and they will give you a FREE scratch card which covers the cost of parking. This card must be displayed clearly in your car.

Please make all players, supporters umpires and oppo aware of these new restrictions.

Everyone should have received an email detailing the fundraising day on Sunday 26th September.  We need 100 people dribble a ball around the cycle track in a relay style.  This is NOT a sponsorship event. It is a guess the time competition with a prize of £100, so even if you are not able to participate on the day you can still do your bit for the club by getting friends & family to have a guess.  Forms are available from Julia or Graham behind the bar.   

We are also planning on having a BBQ and Boules Tournament in the afternoon.
