Oxted 4-1 Men's Veterans XI
Oxted must have thought Christmas had come a week early when Brighton's Veterans produced their worst performance of the season this weekend. Quite a few of the team looked as if they had spent the night before sampling the joys of Christmas spirit as the whole team seemed to be a yard slower than the opposition.
The game started well enough with some early forays down the right wing showing plenty of promise. However once Oxted got the ball their movement and speed of pass were too good for the visitors. Neil Beglin marked his season's debut with a well struck shot from a slipped short corner but at half-time Brighton were 3-1 down and staring a landslide in the face. The second half showed more energy particularly from James Alexander who's never give up attitude was a lesson to all. Oxted scored again and although Beglin and Guy Nelson combined well towards the end to somehow not score the result was a huge disappointment. Recent games with Lewes and Reigate have shown that this veterans team can compete with the league leaders. This was definitely not the case at Oxted.
The Christmas break will give everyone chance to put a rather difficult first half of the season behind them and look forward to a more positive second half.
