Horsham 2's 4-4 Men's 3rd XI
Brighton came away disappointed yet again this season after drawing a game they should have won easily against an average yet tenacious Horsham side.
The forwards were on song once more, deserving the position as the league's second highest top scorers, and they quickly put the team 1-0 up after an excellent shot from Spidey beat the despairing keeper. Horsham came back and scored against the run of play but Grimsey, again on excellent form, scored with a little reverse side dink over the goalie and into the bottom corner. Half time at 2-1 and the confidence was looking to return. The irrepressible Begs increased the lead to 3-1 with a customary short corner strike and the points looked like they were in the bag. Unfortunately a defensive loss of concentration saw Horsham’s worthy 'never say die' attitude quickly reduce the deficit to one and then to equalise.
A moment of genius from Grimsey with a super first time slap from the top of the D into the top left hand corner past the outstretched hands of the goalie looked to have given Brighton a deserved and morale boosting victory but in usual Threes fashion things were not going to be that easy. Disaster seemed to strike as keeper Dave Brooks conceded a harsh penalty flick but swiftly atoned by saving confidently the Horsham effort. Were the Gods going to smile on Brighton today? No. In the closing minutes Horsham equalised after the striker had struck Riggers in the chest after being tackled and used the space and time to stroke the ball into the goal.
The game ended with Brighton holding on for a disappointing draw in a game they were never behind in.
