Worthing 4 1-3 Men's 5th XI
The first league game of the season started with all the team being sent out of the cage when Worthing ladies objected to us warming up around the pitch, obviously not used to a team at the peak of their fitness.
The side had few changes to the regulars of last season with Bondy and Andy Wood joining the team, this was also the first game in 5 years that the Davis twins had played together.
Once the game got underway the 5s secured a 3 points with two goals first half goals from Bondy. For his first Bondy was on hand to collect a reverse stick pass from Riggers, which he picked up at the far post and popped it away, for his second it was a short corner that went wrong or should that be right!), the ball came out wide of Bondy to swampy who took it into the D and passed to Bondy who clinically sent it towards the backboard.
By half time the 5s had had numerous chances with the best falling to Tom but failed to capitalise on these. 2-0 at halftime was an acceptable score.
The second half started in the same vain as the first with Brighton exerting the pressure, but failing to get round Worthing's big man at
the back. Then Worthing started to get back into the game with Andy Davis pulling off some spectacular saves, but it was his brother Ed who
effectively killed off Worthing receiving a defence splitting pass from Bondy at the near post and casually lifting it over the Worthing keeper who was prostrate on the floor.
Ed then moved to right back where with five minutes to go he turned from saint to sinner as he was knocked to the floor by a Worthing player and to stop the ball hitting his head he put his hand on the ball not once but three times, he was given a yellow card and effectively was out of the game. Andy Davis dived the right way but could not keep the flick out.
