Lewes 1-2 Men's 2nd XI

Scorers: Sam Forster, Pat Rose

Brighton worked hard to pull off an away win at Lewes, which I'm sure brings a smile to the faces of all BHHC members. All round effort and concentration won the day and the Men's 2s are proud to have made a solid comeback to the league.

Following 10 minutes or so of "warm-up" for the Blues, Brighton soon took control of the game and made it clear that man for man, they were the better side. Lewes, however, held well as a team and communicated well, resulting in a number of balls reaching inside the Brighton 25. Fortunately Liam Cotter was at hand and took the ball away from Lewes on almost every occasion, shadowing his man superbly and ensuring he stepped in front with impeccable timing.

Despite the Brighton dominance, half-time arrived with a 0-0 scoreline and it was clear that Brighton needed to push forward. Sam Forster opened the scoring beautifully with a crisp lob and Pat Rose added a second following a goal-mouth scramble. Simon Coles was extremely unlucky not to score a penalty flick after his excellent effort was denied by a great save on the part of the Lewes keeper.

Carlo Misserian put in a sterling performance at centre-half, in particular ensuring that the Brighton forwards were at hand to block the Lewes 16s, which worked tremendously. A late goal from Lewes put pay to Brighton's hopes of a clean sheet thanks to a well-taken reverse stick shot from the Lewes striker, but Brighton were still able to walk away from the game proud to have won.
