Brighton Gulls 0-2 Ladies' 6th XI
This was a match all about honour and pride - this was the 6's v the 7's and we were all determined to win!
We arrived at the ground far more perkier than usual, was it that we were all psyched up for this match or the fact that it was the afternoon and everyone had managed to get over their hangovers?!
Our spirit of energy was reduced to near exhaustion as we tried to pull on the team shirts - they all seemed X X small (am sure that Fiona did it on purpose!) It looked as though we were practising escaping from straight jackets rather than preparing for a match!
Meanwhile the 7's warmed up at a pace we would be pleased to reach in the match!
With short corners discussed, positions confirmed - we were ready!
In the first half we mounted attacks with good passing but we just could not get the ball into the back of the net. That was until Hayley did as we have always been told - play to the whistle - While the rest of us turned to the Umpire asking for a short corner, Hayley promptly struck the ball over the
line for the vital goal.
In the second half the 7's put us under real pressure and threatened to get the equaliser. Ellen and Hillary played fantastically well and made some great runs up from our own half infiltrating the 7's defence.
The golden boots of Poppy kicked into action and in a fast break she hurtled for goal from the half way line going past the defence and scoring fantastically well.
That sealed the victory and left the 6's team with their pride intact.
Special mention to Hillary and Kath who seemingly fell over during the match
> without any reason at all!!!
