Horsham (CUP) 6-1 Men's Veterans XI
We were tired, they had some good "ringers", we got hammered. errr that's it...
...would be an easy way to describe the disappointment of crashing out of the Veterans' Sussex Cup to a well organised Horsham team.
In fact the reality was slightly different to the scoreline although there is no disputing that the better team prevailed.
Horsham started much the brighter team and the pace of their forward line and the positional play of their midfield created all sorts of problems to a slightly jaded Brighton defence. Within 20 minutes they were 2 goals up but as Brighton perked up the home side seemed to tire and man of the match, James Alexander breathed hope into the game with a well taken goal at a short corner. Horsham scored again to protect the two goal lead at the break. Brighton pushed forward and were unlucky not to score when Tim Ireland hit the post and put a short corner just wide. Unfortunately all this pressure left the defence exposed to the raw pace of the young (sic) attack who were clinical in front of goal.
No disgrace but plenty of disappointment tempered by the knowledge that Brighton kept on right to the final whistle - can only be good for fitness.
