Chichester 2-7 Men's Veterans XI
Finally the Veterans side delivered the avalanche of goals its earlier performances had threatened. Chichester started the game full of confidence (the table never lies does it?) but had the shock of their lives when Adrian Adams slammed in the first of his four goals. Steve Tinson scored twice and David Martin showed that sometimes the brain is mightier than brawn when he cleverly flicked the ball over the hapless 'keeper from another well worked short corner routine.
Perhaps most pleasing was that none of these goals were down to individual brilliance rather the culmination of excellent passing and running within the team. Everybody played well and followed the season's mantra of simple balls played early and wide.
With the exception of a ten minute siesta when some bad habits crept in (and two Chichester goals) this was the Veterans' best performance for many years, possibly ever.
Suddenly the future is bright, unlike the floddlighting at Stanley Deason...
