Worthing 3s 2-7 Men's 4th XI

Brighton 4s 7 - Worthing 3s 2

Scorers : Jo Wells (2), Tom Bucknall, Laurie Jameson, Don Turnball, Andy Cunningham, Chris Smith

With minutes to go to the push back, the 4s start to their league season looked about to turn into disaster with only 9 players at the pitch. Luckily a delay to the arrival of the Worthing 3s keeper, allowed Brighton to start with a full complement, although Farthing was still to appear ….. maybe he was making some dough !

Soon, a makeshift “sorry what’s your name again?” start of the season side, started to dominate play with Rikards and Posthumus taking a firm grip of midfield. Coupled with excellent distribution from Turnball at the back, it was only before time Brighton converted pressure in to goals.

First, Wells deflected a strong cross from Rikards into the left hand side of the net and before Worthing had time to get going again, a melee in front of goal left Smith to lift the ball over the keeper reverse stick into the net.

Jameson made it three before half time, before Worthing went down to 10 men for foul play.

Skipper Thompo warned about complancey at the break, words which however went unheeded. Sloppy play straight after half time, caused a short to be conceeded which led to Worthing 3s replying with a well worked goal.

However this seemed to spur the team on and the fourth goal soon came with after a quality pass from Farthing to Bucknall. The youngster waited for the keeper to commit, before rounding him to slot home. For the second game running, Bucknall put away one of the harder of his chances.

The game was effectively sealed when another defence splitting pass from Farthing set Cunningham up for number five. Shortly afterwards, Turnball obviously bored at the back decided to go on a trip in to the ‘D’ to smash number 6 into the net.

Worthing came back again with a seond before Wells capped a hard working performance with a second.

The question of everyones lips after the game was …. “Where are the teapot and handbag !?”
