Horsham 2's 2-4 Men's 3rd XI
After an enforced rest the previous week caused by extreme weather conditions at the Fortress Deason, Brighton 3’s made the short trip up the road to Horsham, where unfortunately the weather conditions weren’t much better, only a little more sheltered unlike Deason where the wind has the ability to howl off the sea.
Brighton travelled up to Horsham without their charismatic skipper Bondy who was no doubt on his 15th pint as he watched some minor international rugby game instead of playing in this clash that could see Brighton increase their points tally. All was not lost though as the Brighton side on paper looked very strong welcoming the promoted Matt Bannister from the 2’s and James Grimes who had recovered from his broken ribs. These two would form a strong partnership in the mid-field that Horsham would struggle against.
As the game started Brighton took control with crisp, clean passing as Brighton looked to move it around the pitch denying Horsham the opportunity to get into the game. It wasn’t long before Brighton took the lead from a short corner. An overzealous pull out found Prucey pick the ball up and ghost around the advancing Horsham player before slotting it towards the ‘P’ Spot for Begs to pick up his first of the game. Brighton continued with their dominance and it wasn’t long before Brighton picked up their second. Again Prucey was involved as a free hit just outside the ‘D’ was pulled back to him allowing him to dribble the ball into the ‘D’ before pulling it back to Davros who was on the edge of the ‘D’ who was ready to strike first time which he did, 2-0 Brighton.
As the game started to settle into a routine Brighton became a little too comfortable with their lead allowing Horsham to get into the game and as they started to pass the ball around they managed to find a hole in the Brighton defence to which they dispatched two goals drawing them level with Brighton, who now not looking at their best. It was at this point Begs on the sidelined was stripped and snarling like a Rottweiler on a lead wanting to get on to make a difference on the game, however as luck would have it Begs was not required as again the inform Prucey was involved in Brighton’s third goal. Picked up on the Brighton ‘D’ Prucey passed the ball up the middle where Davros picked it up and shipped it onto Delea who ran with the ball to the Horsham ‘D’ slipping it to Harding who in a rare moment found himself on the edge of the ‘D’ instead of 2 yards from goal took a crisp shot that rocketed into the top right hand corner.
Half time and Brighton were told to pick up their game as Horsham should not have been allowed to score. Brighton made a good start to the second half and dominated much of the second half with Horsham only troubling the Brighton defence a couple of times. It was only Brighton that scored in the second half through a typical Begs down the middle goal from a short corner. 4-2 winners, Brighton took their opportunities when presented and looked much the better team.
Next week’s opponents Worthing 3’s will provide Brighton with a great opportunity to get another 3 points in the bag.
