Southwick 3's 2-11 Men's 3rd XI
3XI Sussex Cup 1st Round Vs Southwick 3's
Having not been part of the top four in last season’s 3XI Cup, Brighton found themseleves starting their campaign for silverware very early in the season. For some it was a mad panic to try and find where they had dumped their stick after the last game of the season and dust the cobwebs off!
As the players started to turn up, it looked like Brighton had dipped into the transfer market over the summer with two new additions to the side, until everybody looked a little bit closer and realised that between them Bondi and Ade had lost the weight of a baby elephant!
Unperturbed at the thought of such an important game being the first of the season, Brighton started the game with enthusiasm, if a little bit confused and unsure about the new rules. This was not going to be a giant cup killing, Brighton did not want to slip up at the first hurdle, oh no, they were going to make sure they would be in that hat for the 2nd round!
In truth I am not sure what Brighton were worried about! It was a bit like racing a Ferrari against a Skoda. Brighton dominated from the start and began to use the game as a practice match as they kept scoring goals, almost for fun!
A goal fest, everybody thought they could get themselves on that score sheet. However it was left to a few greedy individuals to keep the scoring between them as if the race to be top scorer would be decided after this game! (Calm down gents, the season has only just started!) If you are interested in the scorers they were – Davros x 3, Delea x 3, Farthing x 3, Harding x 2 (see greedy, 11 goals between 4!)
The only downside to the day was conceding 2 goals (No clean sheet for Hehir there then!!) but in the end Brighton ran out 11-2 winners and found that place in the hat for the 2nd round.
