Lewes Rousers 1-2 Men's 6th XI

Scorers: Ollie Arkaah, Josh Davey

This week the Sixes provided the warm up act for the 1's, when Lewes generously booked Falmer for our 'away' game against a Rousers side only a point behind Brighton in the table.

The game settled into a very open and quite predictable pattern, as a very experienced Lewes side using a solitary play maker and deep lying forwards. Brighton exploiting the resulting wide open spaces in midfield to pass the ball with increasing confidence, after very even opening exchanges.

Despite Lewes not really opening up the Brighton defence, the away side gifted them the now customary opening goal. After the Brighton midfield failed to pick up Lewes' one truly skillful player, he was allowed to run unchallenged from the half way line and slip the ball past Glen for a very soft goal.

The Lewes goal prompted the now customary Brighton response, as Dicky Barnes, Will & Josh took control of the midfield. Brighton's dominance of posession was quickly turned into chances as the Lewes keeper was tested on several occasions. The best Brighton chance was when Howie's aerial ball cleared the entire Lewes back four, was met by a first time shot by Chris and was brilliantly saved on the near post.

Brighton levelled before half time, after benefitting from the random decision making of the umpire. A Brighton shot was smothered by the keeper, but play was allowed to go on letting Ollie to dig the ball out and prove deadly from a yard out.

After going into half time level, Brighton took control in all areas of the pitch, but despite comfortable midfield possession and the attacking threat of Josh in wide positions, several good saves from the keeper kept Lewes in the game.

Half way through the second half, Brighton finally took the lead when Josh's short corner strike was defected by a defenders stick to lob the keeper. Despite several further chances, Brighton couldn't quite put Lewes away but a very sporting and enjoyable contest finished with a 2-1 win to the Sixes.

Ollie's Afro Watch - Despite extensive blow drying, there's still no signs that the height is having a adverse aero dynamic effect.
