Sevenoaks 1-4 Men's 2nd XI

The day of reckoning had arrived. 1st v 2nd in the league for who will be top at Christmas. The weather wasn’t pretty, sideways rain and lots of it and to top that no sign of Lloyd! This did not please the captain one bit and it was another name added to the ‘punch in the face’ list! With smoke and fire coming out of the captains’ ears and four letter expletives from his mouth, the mini bus drive was slightly steamy.
We arrived at Holly Bush Lane and managed ton sneak in a cheeky cup of coffee in the café before heading out for a by a relaxed warm up in the freezing rain! We took to the pitch for a 3pm bully off under lights. We started well with a number of good attacking moves that ended in a few good attempts at goal. However, Sevenoaks stood fast and dealt with our early pressure. The opposition then had some good attacks themselves; our newly promoted keeper Psycho wanted to make his mark and decided comedy was the best way so for 5 minutes he entertained the crowd and terrorised us with some… unusual keeping. Luke let a through ball run through which was not going to make the base line, up steps Psycho to kick the ball onto his own post from an incredible angle which ends up as a great pass to the oncoming Sevenoaks forward who should of scored but for some great defensive work by Dermot. 2 minutes later Psycho is in no mans land at the top of the D slicing another kick which bobbled to one of their forwards only for Dermot to make another double save. Sevenoaks then had a number of corners which they did not take advantage of. This is when Psycho decided if the feet are not working I’ll use the stick by pulling off an amazing reflex save to keep us in it.
Brighton pushed forward and with some nice skills in the D won a short corner. A slick training ground move ended up with McGuinness not hitting the ball as hard as he hits most of the opposing team but somehow the ball managed to trickle across the line; 1-0 Brighton and Hove.
The second half started well for Brighton with Hore bossing the middle and creating some good attacking moves. As a team we dealt with everything they threw at us, keeping our shape, pressing hard and forcing them to slap the ball up the channels for their forwards which a front-marking Brighton dealt with easily. Then came some sloppy defending and we let them into equalise against the run of play 1-1. A problem with the floodlights halted play for 10 nervy minutes but when the game got underway again it was business as usual. Brighton kept their heads and as per usual Ollie P was in the right place at the right time to reverse stick the ball into the corner from a yard out; 2-1 Brighton. We then took control of the game and with some great work from Ross on the right won a corner resulting in another for Brighton; 3-1 Brighton and Hove. With the game nearly over a quick free hit ended with a prefect pass to Ollie P on the far post: The result, a 4-1 away win at Sevenoaks Fantastic result 5 points clear at Christmas and a 30+ goal difference.
