Worthing 4s 0-3 Men's 5th XI
Brighton once again shuffled the pack following the previous weeks defeat, they had Tim Pearson returning, Paul Sheffield making his first 5s start of the season and new boy Mike Durran making his season debut following 2 years in Africa and now he was hungry like the wolf for a game.
Brighton were on the attack from the start they were like wild boys looking for a goal but with the notorious Hendo, Ramzy and Rob C filling the forward line surely it was only time. Josh was doing a lot of good work down the right hand side but in the final third the goal was elusive as Brighton simply come undone.
The short corner routines were also not going well as Ross, Rob and Ramzy could not all match get their parts correct at the same time. At the other end Matt had one save to make in goal during the first half, 0-0 half time, the score was serious and just went to show that Brighton were in an ordinary world.
The second half was like a new moon on Monday with Paul Sheffield overlapping nicely with Josh on the right and Tim doing some good stuff with Sim on the left, but still no goal.
Brighton nearly took the lead when Mike D had a view to a kill from the top of the D but the keeper was able to parry wide, from the resulting long corner Paul crossed in Josh shot the ball bobbled and Ramzy put it away via the post 1-0. Within minutes it was too as Paul Sheffield overlapped with Josh to pick up the ball and send in a cross which Ramzy volleyed in on the reflex.
Worthing then pressed Brighton trying to pull a goal back they attacked down the right, beat Matt squires but Mr Sale was on the line to deny them.
With minutes left Brighton won another short corner, Swampy had had enough of everyone else messing them up so stepped up like an electric barberella for the perfect hit out from Rob C, combined with a good stop and then a first time strike under the keeper 3-0 full time and Brighton’s first clean sheet for over a year. Now we save a prayer for Chichester next week.
