Worthing 3 2-2 Men's 4th XI
Along with the 4s usual Band of Brothers we were joined by some guest stars from the club. Dan Hore starred as Midas for us and Thompo returned as Corporal Jones.
Brighton were facing a Worthing 3s side who were on a roll of good results. Brighton were on a run of good performances but defeats. Worthing 3s, sitting second in the table, weren’t an ideal match up for us.
Brighton started brightly and were on song and were not to be outclassed. Midas was running things in midfield while Ready and Potter made sure there was no way through in defence. Disaster was to strike though as Potter rolled his ankle and has he hobbled about in came the finely coiffured Worthing player to rifle a shot into the top corner past the despairing Brooksy.
Halftime came and Potter came through an impromptu physical (basically Brooksy saying “run over there and run back”, and asking “how’s that?” to which Potter mumbled, “‘salright”) he was back in the game! There was no panic in the ranks despite being 1-0 down…..
The second half continued with Brighton’s confidence growing. Apart from the odd spat between Midas and Russell (they have lot to learn from the uber spat masters thompo and wappy) Brighton were on it (as they say).
Fortune favours the brave and Matt yet again was in the right place at the right time to restore the parity. Short corner followed short corner and tosh miss followed tosh miss. Then up stepped Midas to strike a beautiful short corner to give brighton the lead. From here on in Brighton played like a bunch of idiots.
Brooksy had one of his “episodes” and awoke to find himself beached at the top of the D with the goal at the mercy of the Worthing striker. Midas is there again to clear off the line. Enter stage right Thompo with the all too familiar cry of “HIT IT!!! JUST GET RID OF IT!!! OUT!!! OUT!!!!” a corporal Jones classic. Midas just walked calmly out of the D.
Cue the Countdown music…. With 25 seconds to go for a famous victory Worthing’s burly number 2 showed some neat skill to beat Ready and hit a well placed shot to level the scores. Robbed at the last! C’est une disastre!!!
A sad end to a great team performance!
