South Saxons 2s 6-1 Men's 4th XI
Horntye Horror !
How quickly did Brighton 4s season come back down to early with an almight crash. A combination of events, most notably, Dickie Davies pathetic attempt at timekeeping coupled with the Satrurday afternoon drivers visiting Middle Farm and Charleston Manor House conspired to cause the team to arrive with 3 minutes until push back.
Unfortunately for Brighton, the South Saxons skipper had noticed this and had vigourously roused his team into a almighty frenzy ….. net result 3-0 down after 15 minutes, although at 2-0 new boy Alan McGuiness, crashed a spectacular shot into the upright and then cross bar only for it to hit the keeper and some how stay out !
Soon after Saxons third, McGuiness scored his debut goal with a well taken shot, to give Brighton hope, however that hope was soon shattered with more Saxons goals and Brighton were left reeling 5-1 at half time.
At half time Brighton were left to reflect that a number of goals came from basic errors and poor marking, sloppy probably was the best description for it !
Reorganisation and a more committed approach in the second half allowed Brighton to finish with some respectability at 6-1. It was one of those strange games, where the team created more chances than the opposition but allowed Saxons to take their chances with ease.
Poor Wappy ! He had to watch this debacle with his mouth firmly closed as he was umpiring ! However at the post mortem, he didn’t mince his words …..
Luckily the handbag, teapot and Homer were AWOL …. otherwise we would have been there all night going through the nominations !!!!
