Worthing 1 5-4 Ladies' 2nd XI

The morning of the last game of the season dawned bright and sunny for some, and slightly fuzzy and hungover for others. The fixture was played at St.Andrews pitch in Worthing, which features some uniquely equipped changing rooms - after all, not too many places offer a spare pair of shorts and a packet of sultanas.

The warm up went well and included passing the fish pond twice and 3 team photos (see team page for evidence).

The game started well with lots of possession for Brighton, but despite this it was Worthing who opened the scoring with 2 goals in quick succession, and then a 3rd… Perhaps the warm up was a little too casual.

Brighton had a good amount of possession and responded with a goal from Hayley Skills Renaud.

The rest of the half featured the Brighton Goalkeeper showing her stick skills OUTSIDE the D, but despite this surprise tactic, Worthing scored again. Half time score 4-1.

The second half started strongly for Brighton with a fantastic goal from Hayley, deflecting a strong pass from Donna Wilson. Brighton scored again quickly, with a penalty corner rebound, put in the goal by Kate Kieran, making the score 4-3.

Worthing were then awarded a penalty stroke, which was scored despite Em’s best efforts. 5-3. Brighton responded well by putting the pressure on again, and scored a 4th goal - another shell from Donna, converted by Kate. We then pushed for the equaliser with good chances including Hayley hitting the side netting and Kate with a high flick that the keeper saved. The equaliser never arrived. Final score 5-4 to Worthing 1s.

Having ‘won’ the second half 3-1 the Brighton team were positive after the game and enjoyed an excellent tea at the Worthing Club House (including double chocolate Swiss roll). The highlight of the journey home had to be Lyric’s first ever visit to a car wash - with Take That blasting out Tara’s car. Awesome.
