Eastbourne 1A 0-1 Ladies' 2nd XI
The Ladies 2s met at the Clubhouse at 11.30 am, 2 whole hours before pushback in Eastbourne. Despite this more than adequate allowance of time, circumstances conspired to make it all a bit of a kerfuffle.
Thelma and Louise (GK Emily and Hannah) got lost in a time warp in downtown Newhaven and then Eastbourne (easily done), arriving several whole minutes before the start of the match; thanks to Kate for talking them in using expert local knowledge.
The Liverpool v Man United game also proved to be a distraction and delayed our exit from the bar. Fortunately for us, the Eastbourne Men’s 1s match on before us was late starting, giving us an extra 10 minutes to gather our composure in time for push back.
The captain won the 6th coin toss on the run (surely a record?), so avoiding the need for sunglasses in the first half. The game proved to be competitive and reached half time at 0-0 despite a good number of shorties. Brighton's defence yet again proved to be up to the challenge.
Hayley’s suggested system change at half time was a winner; it resulted in more pressure on the Eatbourne defence in the second half, and a Brighton goal from Kate. The game continued in the same competitive manner, and although both sides had more chances on goal, it ended 1-0 to Brighton.
Thanks to our supporters, Ellie's Mum - who watched the whole game, and Dan - who watch a whole 30 seconds.
There then followed a very rapid exit from Eastbourne (even by Thelma and Louise), and a frustratingly slow drive west on the scenic A27 to Falmer to see the remainder of the 1s match against Chichester 1s. Should have brought our earplugs.
