Worthing 3s 4-0 Men's 5th XI
Brighton & Hove Fantastic 5’s v The Worthing Youth Team (their 4’s)
An ever improving Brighton side met this game with an air of caution. Worthing are top of the league and by quite a bit, they are even above their 3rd eleven. They are a team of skilful youngsters full of running with only a couple of older heads so we knew this would be a very exhausting game.
During the first half Brighton were creating little, with a few stray passes but no bad play we really knew it would take something special to break down this Worthing defense.
Worthing on the other hand were a very well drilled side and were creating some good chances but, with the help of some great saves from stand in keeper Andy, the defense were holding them out well. It was only when a controversial decision 3 mins before half time gave Worthing there first goal. The ball seemed to be raised in the D, a view supported by the fact that it nearly removed Swampy’s knackers, but the umpire decided he wouldn’t award the foul but instead the goal when the ball broke for their centre forward. CONTROVERSIAL!
We were all a bit out of breath at half time and we knew it would be the same in the second half, but we lived in hope of a break away goal to try and get something from the game. This was not to be and with even more pressure Worthing managed to get 3 more goals in the second half.
The highlight of the 2nd half from Bright was our one and only short corner which went close from Dickie Barnes, other than that there were few if any clear cut chances for Brighton.
Final score:
Brighton 0
Worthing 4
