BBHC 2's 5-3 Men's 3rd XI

A left backs view....

On time as ever, the Tonka never seems to let me down or am I late? as it appears the team is warming up & seem to be putting some highly professional routines together. As I approach the field only to realise that the oppo has taken to the Fortress floor a good few hours before us and are well under way into a hefty training session....This does not put the elite thirds to threat as the team body lotion comes out for a good old rub up, thanks to Begs this week, hands of an angel....now well lubricated the team starts to discuss the next stage of the teams warm up....the bets start flying....fiver on Burger King Cotter (BKC to his friends) turning up mid warm up....the warm up is going well with us giving the Fortress a good beating as we have a good combined weight of a large herd of water buffalo....Skip, the eldest of the three brothers goes through the herds positions, again I await for the call up, centre forward today, not this week..........usual position.........no problem Skip....

The Skip is a talented sort with him making sure that we change ends just to confuse the oppo at an early stage in the game....with the umpires freshly polished whistles ready for action the first blow begins the battle....a good start with the ‘Undertaker Lees’ and the Skip heading down the right with some strong passing utilising our ability to pass the ball (this is the white object that you don’t get to see much if the Devil Delea is playing, good for us that he has been performing well below par & dropped by the Skip to the muddy water depths of the Fourths), Prucey then takes control & starts taking some flying runs in to the oppo’s half with his lightning stick skills only to have the play broken down and some sweeping strikes back up the field in to our half by the oppo, pain in the backside as just ordered my Gin for the half time interval, this causing the defence to be under pressure (this seems a good time to bring BKC on to the pitch to take the pressure of the defence, thus the undertaker takes a rest for five, unfortunately one weak tackle in and BKC has to take a quick visit to the local A&E for some tlc, with a quick stop off at BK on the way to gain his strength) and letting some fly weight goals in which seem to have been delivered by the driver of Miss Daisy....that’s the good thing about us elite thirds being under pressure we always seem to bounce back with Doc putting two strong shots in to the back of their net....with a no nonsense half time talk from the Skip and AKA Begs the challenge is set....whatever we thought at half time they must have thought harder as we seemed to struggle to control the pitch, they seem to have the luck of the Irish on their side with a few more deflections taking them in to the lead.... It seemed that we just could not finish all our hard work off then Begs hit them with a great finish from a Simpson Special, which became our last celebration on the pitch and with the final whistle blown we left the pitch with a 5-3 defeat....one good thing to add on this subject is that our Skip being a kind and thoughtful type invited the oppo back to the Brighton & Hove club house for some warm wholesome food & good beer, unfortunately the remaining members of the team including myself and the Skip decided to go for a few social scoops at Falmer to support our 1’s....god bless Guinness....

This very brief report has been brought to you by the Silverfox....or a left back who is trying to remember what exactly happened that Saturday afternoon after to many glasses of red that evening....
